fourmonthspreop 510 Posted February 7, 2022 Hey! I'm just trying to get through my pre op diet right now. I'm limited to lean Proteins and veggies at the moment in very small amounts. I'm doing meal preps and eating the same small Protein meal everyday. I'm a vegetarian so I'm just sticking to tofu since it's low carb. The first one is tofu cooked in a tablespoon on coconut flour and garlic Zuchinni with a very small amount of tomatoes. The other one was sugar free barbecue tofu and onion green Beans. Can I see your pre op meals? I'm interested to see how others ate on their pre op diets. Thanks! liveaboard15 1,293 Posted February 7, 2022 Interesting how different surgeons require different pre op diets... Mine is strictly liquids only for the preop diet. On a side note never had tofu lol. 1 fourmonthspreop reacted to this
Sleeve_Me_Alone 656 Posted February 7, 2022 I also had a full liquid pre-op, so not sure I'm a ton of help. But how about some pureed Soups with vegan Protein Powder added, or maybe some falafel, hummus, or other bean-heavy meals like chili? 1 fourmonthspreop reacted to this

Yeah it is! It's like different times too. Some people do liquids for a week only I hear. I'm 12 days on two shakes one Protein meal a day along with Jello, popsicles and broth and then 2 days all liquid before surgery. Tofu is good! But I've also been eating it since I was very young as it's a staple in my family. I was told I can have Beans after surgery during pureed food stage. Looking forward to eating carbs again omggg Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
fourmonthspreop 510 Posted February 7, 2022 Mine was 3 Optifast shakes a day and Water. No sugar free jellos... nothing. Ugh that had to have been really challenging. My Jello and popsicles are getting me through the dizziness. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app Actually it was fine. Post op, first 10 days was the same except it was two Optifast shakes and I began to gag on them so ended it early and began the next stage of home made creamed Soups. I can't look at those shakes now, it's like a phobia.

I'm about 1 month away from pre-op diet and came here to ask for vegetarian suggestions for my one Protein a day. But you just did the same. Looks really good. Have you tried anything other than tofu?

I have to try and find some vegetarian friendly creamed soup! Sounds decent. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Try this one, pack of mixed/interesting mushrooms. Fry with a little garlic. Large onion, diced, also fry. Add mix to blender with vegetable stock and kefir. Blend smooth. Salt and lemon juice to taste.

How does a post op stomach tolerate fat in dairy products? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app Kefir is very low fat. It's sour but it's a mushroom Soup so it definitely needs that lemony sourness to lift it. Oh, I also put a scoop of collagen powder or Protein powder in, but you want a really flavourless one preferably - my pea protein isn't bland enough and a slight flavour comes through. I'll put protein powder in most Soups.
Guest Posted February 8, 2022 Oh to answer your question, fat tolerance varies widely but this Soup and most Soups are mainly Water. There's two tablespoons of oil for frying split between about 6 portions.

Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app I don't have any suggestions for you for pre-op, since I mostly ate lean meat (I've never been good at cooking tofu!). However, my stomach is fine with cheese, so I eat a lot of high fat dairy. Some people DO become lactose intolerant, but not all cheese has lactose. Also, kefir is more sour than bitter. It's also not necessarily high fat. I add a lot of fat free greek yogurt to my meals to add Protein and flavor. It's great with chili, which can be done vegetarian post surgery when you can have Beans again (I was permitted beans on pre-op). 1 fourmonthspreop reacted to this
