3 weeks until Surgery!

Recommended Posts

Hi! 😊

I am new here and just wanted to start somewhere! I am 3 weeks from my surgery! I am excited and a bit nervous! I am having the gastric sleeve. At my consultation on January 11th, I was 287 lbs. Today I am at 272 lbs. Just trying to lose as much weight as I can before the BIG DAY!!!!

Thank you SOOOO much!!!! I have been wanting this surgery for the last 13 years. Twice before I tried with insurance and was denied. So this time, it's self-pay. Im amazed at the difference between trying to go through insurance and self-paying.

I did the exact same thing! Tried 3 times with insurance and always got so discouraged with all the hoop-jumping that I bailed. I finally went the self-pay route and am SO happy I did! Truly life changing!

Sleeve_me_alone, I agree! It’s crazy all the hoops they make you jump just to deny you!

I will say as these last few weeks dwindle closer to “go time”, I’m getting nervous!

Congrats!!
I was self pay as well.
No regrets what so ever w the surgery. There are so many success stories on this app and so many helpful dos and don’ts.
Many of us have been on here for a while so any questions feel free to ask. I’ve met some amazing people on here. Some were my sleeve buddies and some my PS buddies and some just met on here-all have been awesome to meet. Hope you love this app and find it as awesome as a lot of us do!
Keep us updated!!

Thank you all again so much!

I have to admit, I’m getting nervous as these last 3 weeks are dwindling down… last night I was up late reading stories that kinda made me worry lol… some of my worries are:

Dehydration from not being able to get the fluids in

Pain (although I have a pretty high pain tolerance)

Ending up with GERD

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
