Am I beyond the point of no return?

Recommended Posts

I had a sleeve back in 2015. I lost 100 pounds. I've gained between 25 to 30 pounds through the years. I have several health issues, one being burning mouth syndrome. Nothing tastes good and I'm nauseated off and on during the day. this past year, my parents have declined so I care for them as well as maintaining my own family. I'm extremely overwhelmed with managing everything and the traveling . I need to get back on the straight and narrow. just not sure how at the moment. I'm tired. Thanks for listening.

The key here is to return to taking care of YOU. You need to take care of yourself as much as you are a caregiver. There is no such thing as the point of no return, so you can certainly lose that 25-30 pounds back and be healthier. What do you think is causing your nausea? It could be nerves if you're overwhelmed and stressed.

Consider getting back to basics like you did right after you sleeved, focusing on Protein and Water intake and tracking everything you eat. I have faith in you.

You got this. Change your perspective: even though you’re “up 30 lbs”, you’re still down 70!!!! After 6 years or so! I imagine if you think back to 2015 prior to your sleeve, I’d be willing to bet the idea of having to lose 100 lbs seemed way more daunting than losing 30! What Gradycat said: get back to basics. Track your inputs, move more and give yourself some grace!

You are never too far gone. ❤️ There is a lot going on in your world and several factors at play. First of all, remember that some amount of regain is pretty normal. Most WLS patients do not stay at their lowest weight for long, so that may just be where your body has settled. Have you had labs done recently? Burning Mouth Syndrome is sometimes linked with nutritional deficiencies, which WLS patients are at increased risk for, so there may be some overlap there. Stick to the foods you can comfortably and safely eat, while focusing on Protein and fluids as much as possible. Try and work in some movement when you can. Recruit help if you can. And prioritize your own health & wellness. You are the only YOU your family has and you deserve health & happiness.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
