Review: Muscle Feast

Recommended Posts

I have been having trouble with most shakes because they have sucralose (gives me diarrhea), aspartame (gives me migraines), inulin/chicory root/prebiotic Fiber (gives me mean gas), or milk (makes my stomach upset). So I have been unsuccessfully trying to get enough Protein without any dairy or Protein Shakes, just meat.

I just tried a new protein powder: Muscle Feast which is a whey protein isolate. I tried the chocolate flavor which is sweetened with stevia.

  • I like that it completely dissolved in almond milk without clumping or being gritty.
  • It only lightly foamed which quickly subsided after a couple minutes.
  • It is very thin. It only uses sunflower letchitin for thickening. I didn't mind thick shakes pre-op but post op, I want it as thin as Water so I can get it down.
  • It has a bitter aftertaste. I usually don't get an aftertaste with stevia when I bake but this stuff definitely hits the back of your tongue. After a couple ounces though I didn't notice the aftertaste anymore thankfully.
  • I think it's a wee bit too sweet and will probably dilute it a bit to make it less sweet. I am really sweet aversive post-op so to someone else this may not be sweet enough at all.

Just thought I would share since I hadn't seen this brand mentioned on the forums before. If anyone else has a Protein Powder that is just isolate + cocoa + stevia, let me know because I'd like to try a few more powders before making a lifetime commitment. 😉

Thanks for the thorough and detailed reveiw. I'm sure many of us have spent money on products that didn't work fo us. Hope you find one that works for you.

Thanks for sharing. Many members here struggle with the Protein Shakes, so this will be a good new option for them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
