VGS after many abdominal surgeries

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’ve been denied the surgery from a local doctors bc they only do laparoscopic surgery. I’ve had 4 previous abdominal surgeries ( ovarian cancer twice, vertical c section and total hysterectomy), and one laparoscopic gall bladder removal that took 5 hours. Has anyone had luck with old fashion cut open surgery? Or adhesion removal before laparoscopic? I’m 43, 5 ft 8 and 260 lbs! I’ve already had thyroid cancer and it’s removal. I’m kind of desperate here. I decided to order the meals and shakes here hoping it would help me out some. I want to lose weight I NEED to lose weight I just keep hitting a wall

I had the most brutal Gallbladder surgery aged 17 in 1976. The surgeon cut me from the bottom of my breastbone to my pubic bone. What he was thinking is anyone's guess. In those days we questioned nothing and got on with it.

I was really really nervous that my bariatric surgeon would not be able to do the surgery on me because of the adhesions. I know its small fry to your surgeries but he managed it. I researched many types of surgery in case he rejected me because of the complications. I know some new procedures are being tried, You can have a balloon in your tummy for 6 months that limits the amount you could eat. Another one was done via the mouth using the endoscopy method. They gathered the stomach into a small bag and tethered it there.

Dont despair surgical advances are coming to help you, you deserve the break. Good luck

What about a lap band? Would that be something you could do?

Thank you! I will continue to stay positive and seek a wider range of surgeons. I’ve never been the “textbook “ case anyway lol.

I have not considered that, I am apprehensive about adding something to myself.

I have had 3 surgeries on my abdomen (two exploratory laparoscopies for endometriosis in 2007 and 2011 and gallbladder removal in 2014) and no issues were raised about my suitability for a sleeve. As I recall it was barely discussed when I was doing my pre-op program.

I have stage iv endometriosis with multiple laparoscopy surgeries and so much adhesions you can feel them through my skin. I had to have physical therapy to release the worst ones.

The surgeon wasn’t concerned about them at all and did my surgery with the davinci robot (7 incisions).

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
