Give yourself LOTS of grace. This process is not easy, and there will be bumps along the way. Prepare yourself mentally as best you can.

Therapy helps immensely. If you're not seeing someone, look into it. If that's not an option, read up on disordered eating, eating addiction, and transfer addiction. Arm yourself with information and resources.

Start making a list of questions for your surgeon and ask them BEOFRE your surgery.

Get a support system in place. Spouse/partner, family, here, BariNation, wherever. Just be sure you have a place to go with the hard questions and the big feelings because they WILL come.

Most of all, be so dang proud of yourself for taking this step. We will be here cheering you on!

Be prepared mentally for some discomfort for a couple of weeks potentially. I never had any trouble getting in my Water and Protein nor did I have any pain, but some do. Are you having an overnight stay at the hospital? Pack light. You won't need pajamas. You'll need socks with non-slip soles. You might want chapstick. Bring your phone and charger. Be easy on yourself and don't expect results overnight. It's a process. WLS is just a tool, not the solution.

Follow the mean plan given to you by your doctors. Don't try to progress faster than the approved food timeline. You will get back to eating regular food eventually.

I’m almost a month out and saw my nutritionist Thursday because I’ve only lost a pound the past 2 weeks m. I use an app for my calories and Water and even though I’m getting in my water my calories are under 750. She told me to up my calories and it should break the stall. So my advice is follow the protocol you’ve been given and if you feel unsure etc see if you can get into your nutritionist- it made all the difference in the world to me and calmed my anxiety way way down.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
