liver detox???

Hello everyone--I am going in for my surgery in 2 days 12/14 I haven't lost much weight on the 1000 calorie pre-op diet I know that the purpose of the diet is to shrink my liver so it's not as heavy. Has anyone ever done a liver detox prior to surgery? I do believe it's all natural and I think it would make my liver smaller. I just was wondering about that I don't want to wake up and find out my liver was too fat to get my band.

I went to my local support group on Tuesday night and there were some new people there investigating the band and they asked a similar question. The reply they were given was: when you go on the VLCD the first thing that happens is that your body calls on the fat cells in the liver and this reduces it's size, then the weight loss kicks in. Even though you have not lost a lot of weight your liver may have reduced in size.

Before you change your diet you should call your Dr and discuss to make sure that it is ok.

By all means do not take any OTC drugs or herbal remedies without your surgeons knowledge.

I was going to start taking Glucosemine again for my knees. The nurse said not to, that if I had been taking it, they would have told me to stop at least a week before surgery.

"Natural" doesn't always mean safe for all situations. Poison ivy is "natural."
