So I am 3 days post op and anxious about my diet. Instruction was 1 oz Fluid every 15 minutes. I am anxious that I may do too much or maybe too little. Sometimes 1oz does nothing then the next oz seems to make me fill too full. Am I overdoing?

No worries, it doesn't have to be that exact at 1 oz every 15 minutes. You're not going to bust a gust if you get 2 oz in 15 minutes and you're not going to dehydrate if you wait 18 minutes. Just keep sip, sip, sipping all day long.

I did not get a specific instruction as to how much to drink in a certain time period - I was just told to try to get to 64 oz per day. I found it easier to do by keeping a bottle of Fluid in my hand or right next to me helped me keep it in mind, but some people like to set a timer.

I did not like Water after surgery, so I use flavor packets and drink tea and coffee.

You're doing fine!

I wasn’t given a set time frame to drink either. Like lizonaplane I was just told small sips all day and aim for 64 ounces. It takes some people a little while to work up to that too. Just do your best and if you see signs of dehydration contact your team so you can get some fluids. Try different flavors and different temperatures of beverages too to see what is best for you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
