Recommended Posts

What measuring devices are best for on the go ? What do y’all take with you for picnics or when you eat out ? I am looking for advice on what to purchase to carry with me in my purse to help.

I don’t really go out to eat but I did have disposable cups that were I think 3.5 oz if I remember correctly that worked well to measure food. They also had two ounce ones. I ordered on Amazon. Those would be good cause you wouldn’t have to bring it home with food on it. Depending on what stage you are at they have all Different size cups.

I don't personally carry anything. I just visualize a 5oz yogurt cup and what I think would fit into that. I take small portions and I stop eating when I'm full.

I was waiting for an appointment and I was bored so I did some shopping around. Something like These cups may be good. You probably could fit them in a ziplock to bring home.

I never carried anything either. Simply because you can’t tip the food off your plate into a measuring cup when you’re out. Well I guess you could but … I used body parts to give me an idea of portion sizes etc. Do some measuring at home so you know about how much fits in your palm or in your cupped hand, etc. Then you can eyeball it. It’s not precise but it gives you a pretty good idea. Same with utensils, cups, glassware, plates. How many spoons can you usually eat? How much is 2, 3 or 4oz in a glass or a cup? How many fingers is it (like measuring a spirit)? How much of your portion fits on a side plate? A dinner plate. Etc.

I still use these cues when I’m not eating at home. Listen to your body. Eat slowly. Over time you’ll learn your signals that tell you when you’ve had enough.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
