First trip since band....getting stressed!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I decided to take a trip to Maine this weekend to see my parents. I also decided to bring my daughter-in-law and three grandkids with me. I started my period, so I'm not quite myself, the kids argued in the car for part of the trip and I'm just frustrated and extremely tired. But I know that frustration leads to eating. Because I'm not in my house with the right foods, I'm scared. My mom got the right milk but in trying to get out of the house on time, I forgot to bring some of my stuff just in the event that something wasn't going right. I had brought Snacks for the kids and so that is around and my mom got things that are higher in fat and sugar, all the no-no's. I'm sorry I'm just rambling but I've been up about 21 hours straight and 6 hours of that was driving.

Thank you all for being out there. It helps to vent.

Wow, Angela, just the trip would wear me out! Keep you some tuna salad prepared. That's always good to fall back on and easy to eat. Maybe some of the Lignt'n Fit smoothie Yogurt drinks. Veggie sticks. All of those could be taken on a road trip too. Just try to relax and enjoy your visit. (Maybe give the kids some benedryl before the trip home....just kidding!)

So far, so good. The only bad thing I did was have about a tablespoon of ice cream at Friendly's at lunch time. We went to LL Bean today and the kids got to go sledding. I did have a talk with them about not being able to do a lot this weekend just because of sheer exhaustion. Luckily their mother is just as tired as I am.

Thank you for your support!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
