cahart2002@aol.com 0 Posted December 23, 2021 Not sure if this is the correct forum, but has anyone had experience with knee surgery after being sleeved? I have my first consultation next month but since I made the appointment I discovered I need a new knee. I am wondering if there is a period of time that I will have to wait between surgeries. Jaelzion 1,127 Posted December 23, 2021 Yes! My need for a knee replacement is actually what pushed me to have the surgery. The Ortho surgeon wouldn't do it unless I lost 75 pounds. I had the sleeve in March of 2019 and I had the total knee replacement in August of 2020. So I waited about 1.5 years between surgeries. But that's because it took time for me to lose the required weight. Ask the doctor (bariatric, Ortho, or both) but I don't think you will have to wait as long as I did. Best wishes. Lynnlovesthebeach 626 Posted December 23, 2021 Not knee surgery but I did have a total hip replacement 8 months after my gastric bypass. The ortho doc wouldn't do it until my BMI was less than 30. He said surgery would be safer and my recovery would be much easier. He was right! He was also impressed with my weight loss!
jas84047 72 Posted January 23, 2022 I had my sleeve in 2015. Did pretty good at keeping my knee replacement off for a few more years. Ended up getting really bad again in 2019 and had both knees replaced in summer 2020 & gained 50lbs back after. I wish I did my knees before my sleeve..I ended up having RNY a few months ago due to GERD & regain but regret everything about the RNY.
