Hello everyone! I had my surgery on the 24th of November. Post Op no issues! No pain I can take all medications! However, I have only lost 20 pounds since surgery.... I don't know what I am doing wrong or if I am I have my dietitian on the 29th of this month! Any suggestions? I am walking not every day but most days I do walk

"Only" 20 pounds in three weeks?! I think that's a fantastic amount, especially considering that your body has gone through a big trauma and is still healing. I know it's hard not to compare yourself to others, but progress varies so much, since it's affected by your initial weight, how much you lost before surgery, how damaged your metabolism is from previous dieting, your genetics, and like a million other factors. Keep sticking to your plan and be proud of the success you've had so far!

Nothing only about 20lb in three weeks. How much were you expecting to lose by this time?

most people lose 15-25 lbs the first month. Of course you'll always find a few who lose more or less than that, but they're outliers. So you're perfectly normal.

if you're basing your loss on that show "My 600 lb Life", then you need to adjust your expectations. Those people start out MUCH heavier than your average WLS patient, so OF COURSE they're going to lose a lot faster. Your loss is completely normal. In fact, it's even a little on the high side.

P.S. I lost 16 lbs the first month (so probably around 12 lbs or so in the first three weeks - but I have only my monthly weigh-ins recorded from that far back), and I started out MUCH heavier than you. You are fine. Quit worrying. If you're following your program and your overall trend is down, you're golden!

The more you have to lose the faster you lose to begin. 20lbs is great. If anyone tells you differently punch them in the nose (not really of course). As @catwoman7 said the people on My 600lb Life have a lot more weight to lose than you - like more than double. So you should expect their initial weight loss rate to be more than double yours. But if you watch that show you’ll notice that as they lose weight, the loss Dr Now expects them to lose each month decreases.

Glad you’ve done well & haven’t had any issues. And enjoy every pound you lose.

I lost 23 pounds the first month and I was heavier then you. 20 pounds is a fantastic amount of weight and is on the higher side especially with your starting weight. Unrealistic expectations for the surgery are common because of the show 'My 600 Pound Life' but your starting weight was less than half of theirs and thus your weight loss isn't going to seem as significant, but you're on track and doing great. I had the same unrealistic expectations and you'll have to work on lowering your expectations to be more realistic with your weight loss or else you're constantly going to be beating yourself up thinking that you're failing when, in fact, you're not only on track, but ahead of most people at the same point in time. Put this into perspective: You lost almost 8% of your body weight... in less than a month! How is that failing? Be proud of yourself! You've done great thus far!

I echo everyone's sentiments! Be Proud of yourself and this journey. You have lived your life at your high weight and decided enough was enough and set on your trek. Your trek is not mine, nor anyone else's. You are doing great for YOU!

I think 20 lbs in 3 weeks is fantastic! I was not anywhere close to that and the surgery team thinks I'm doing great at 3 months/35 lbs down.

You didn't gain the weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight

I had the SADI on Nov 24th too. 19lbs lost so far which is amazing for me. 🎉

When I diet on my own it’s max 1-2lbs a month, so this is warp speed IMO.

According to my scale which I weigh myself weekly just before my shower I’ve lost 22lbs since my surgery. Yesterday I went for my 6 week post op visit. Keep in mind your fully dressed for weigh in and according to my doctor he doesn’t deduct clothing. With that said I weighed in at 175lbs which I was a bit upset. According to the doctor my weight at surgery was 189lbs and now my weight at 6 week post op now 175lbs is only giving a 14lb weight loss. Then I asked the doctor if weighing myself weekly just before I shower, is this more acute than being weighed at a late afternoon appointment, fully clothed, eating stage 4 diet requirements and drinking Water. My doctor said my weight at home is likely acute providing what type of scale I’m using. I’m using a Fit Aria. This is a very good scale.

I think that is awesome weight loss but to ease your mind I have seen several people on these boards who were actually slow losers (lost less than you) and even they eventually reached their goal. I think it was catwoman who continued to lose for two years. So as long as you are following your plan and the weight trend is down try not to worry too much about the speed of the loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
