Does anyone else have problems with eating Breakfast? ??? I still have a Protein Shake or smoothie for breakfast. I can mix my Vitamins and supplements in with my shakes first thing in the morning. It is my hardest meal to get down. I even struggle to drink Water first thing in the morning. Today is officially 3 weeks for my since gastric bypass. It literally feels like my pouch is closed early in the morning. I have never thrown up or anything. It can about 1.5 - 2 hours to get down a 8-10oz shake. Has anyone else experienced this???? I don’t have this problem any other time of day. Only breakfast.
Thanks in advance 💛💛💛💛

I have never liked Breakfast, and have never eaten it. It often upsets my stomach and leaves me sort of "off" the rest of the day. That hasn't really changed for me post-op. I definitely feel more restriction early in the day, which makes breakfast even more undesirable. I usually have my cup of coffee and then a Protein Shake, or if I'm busy, I'll hold off and have an early lunch. I usually spread my Vitamins out between coffee and my first meal and that seems to work for me.

I always avoided breakfast and after surgery it’s even worse. I sip flavored water for about 2 hours before I feel up to anything else in my tummy. It needs time to wake up. 😂

Yep, me too. Not a breakfast eater and never was…even pre-op. My first meal of the day is generally after noon.

But I do have my coffee (black) soon after I wake up in the morning.

Oh, but in the early months after surgery, I used to eat a tablespoon of yogurt to help my Calcium pills go down easier…if i didn't, i’d get all sorts of stomach cramping cuz my stomach was empty.

Am 3 years out now and the no-breakfast eating seems to have had/have no effect to my weight loss nor maintenance.

Good luck! ❤️

I know of several people who've had surgery who just have a Protein Shake for breakfast since they can't tolerate real food that early. Nothing wrong with that!

I can't really eat anything until after I have coffee in the morning. If I try anything solid, I usually will get the foamies. It is very tight during the first few hours and I am going into my fifth month after RNY. My surgeon said to have warm tea or coffee in the morning to help. I put almond milk, collagen and sometimes Protein Powder. I don't miss Breakfast since i was never a breakfast person either.

Thank you so much. This was very helpful. I’ll try some tea and see if that helps. I can’t do coffee. I was one of those who had a little coffee with my sugar. I have the coffee flavored Protein Shakes, but they made me sick. I guess my tummy wasn’t ready for the caffeine yet. It was at week 2. I’ve always been a breakfast person. That’s why this feels so weird. Thank you for the advice on trying something warm. 💛💛💛💛

I’m the exact opposite. I’ve always loved breakfast. Sometimes I would eat breakfast and and little to nothing else throughout the day. Lol!!!! That’s why this is so weird.

I guess my tummy has to wake up as well. I’ve always enjoyed breakfast. Truly believed it was the most important meal of the day. Lol!!!!

Okay. Good to know. I’ve always been a major breakfast eater. I’m just going to have to adjust. My tummy can’t handle caffeine yet. I tried the coffee Protein Shake and it was the worst day I’ve had yet. I tried it at week 2. 💛💛💛💛

For those who don’t eat Breakfast, are you morning exercisers? Any issues working out on empty stomach?

*raises hand*

I do my running (usually 5k, sometimes more) in the mornings on an empty stomach and prefer it that way. I feel like a filled or partially filled stomach slows me down. Though this is probably just in my head, lol

Pte-Covid I used to go to the gym in the mornings before eating as well. Was able to do weights or zumba or hot yoga just fine.

YMMV.

Good Luck! ❤️

My dr has you take a lansoprazole capsule with your first meal. I’ve been doing this everyday and haven’t had any problems with an upset stomach. When cleared for mushy/soft food, I had an egg with cheese for breakfast or a couple of spoons of oatmeal with a little yogurt.

I hate eating breakfast first thing.

I get up at 0530, have espresso with a little sugar and some Water to swallow my supplements, and go to the gym. When I get back around 0745, I have a Protein Shake and then shower and get dressed for the day. I don't eat anything solid until around 1000.

Just in case you didn't know this -- the Premier Protein cafe latte flavor pre-made shake contains caffeine, but the powder doesn't. It might be worth trying the powder to see if you tolerate that better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
