My heart racing is not unusual for me in the throes of panic and Im getting all necessary liquids and then some. I do have a minor heart condition AND vasovagal that exacerbate this and I took a heart pill but it didnt help...probably because the culprit was anxiety. Its such a vicious circle. My anxiety was under better control pre-op than it had been my entire life.

didn't they advise you that your anxiety could increase? I didn't have an anxiety prior to surgery but it went through the roof after. I wasn't pre warned either but I didn't have a history of anxiety. it will most likely be your hormones and if you are of an age where peri-menopause is possible it will defiantly be hormones. I ended up going on HRT to settle mine down.

You may want to get it checked out. The surgery aggravated my heart condition and my previous medications stopped working. I ended up in the hospital an extra week. I’m on 3 new drugs, but I’m hoping the problem will resolve as I recover from the surgery.

Rest assured that you can speak with your surgeon or the PA associated and let them know how you are feeling. For me, the pain exceeded the ability of the pain management to supress. I did end up back in the ER and was given much needed fluids and pain management via IV and then sent home with a different pain pill.

I have a few friends who went through the GVS and oh they were running a marathon the next day... no pain, all was beautiful and right in the world. For me... JC, I was in pain and needed a full 2 weeks of pain medication to get me to the point where Tylenol was able to take up for mild discomfort.

It does get better, each day, small gains... Take Deep Breaths and know that you have a support system and you need to discuss how you are doing with them.

I am now 4 weeks post-op and my anxiety is MUCH better. I knew from prior surgeries that surgery sets off my panic and it certainly did with this. But I am employing the strategies I learned in pre-op therapy and that helps. Overall, I just needed to heal, feel better, and get back to everyday life to be ok.

I think being done with menopause already helped me get my emotions under control pretty quickly. Just a theory. Who knows.

Hi

if I start to think what have I done I stop myself by reminding myself of how horrible it felt to be overweight. I think of all the normal activities of daily living I couldn’t do and now can even just two weeks out. Yes we’ve done a drastic thing and we may at time question it but the alternative was worse - no enjoyment of life, feeling fat and horrible and having co morbidities to deal with.
Weve done the best thing for our bodies and mental health. Focus on something like how you are going to feel on your next vacation with your new found fitness! ❤️

When I was home for about 3 days my anxiety was running rampant. I was afraid to sleep cause I thought with a small stomach I’d be dehydrated by morning.
I was able to talk with my psychiatrist about my anxiety and the feeling I was going to be dehydrated. She actually explained that hormones and emotions of learning how to live with a smaller stomach and a new lifestyle is causing your anxiety to run rampant. She gave me an anxiety medication to help keep my anxiety under control and having weekly sessions with my therapist.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
