Hi all! I had my surgery done on 11/8 and on my day 21 post op. I started the soft food state on Monday, 11/22. Per the program I’m following, I can add finely chopped or ground meat starting tomorrow 11/29 as part of stage 4.

I have always liked well seasoned dishes. So, when I started Stage 3 I was seasoning my food with salt and pepper without knowing I can’t taste the saltiness of the salt. In my head, yeah season that creamy scrambled egg and that puréed egg or chicken salad. I also noticed that everything that has sugar taste sweeter.

My question is, is there a day that my tastebuds will comeback to normalcy Or this is my new normal?

it probably varies between people. The only taste difference I noticed after surgery is that my sense of taste intensified - sweet things tasted sweeter, spicy things tasted spicier. I don't notice it anymore, though. I don't know if it went back to the way it was before, or if I just got used to it.

Yes, your sense of taste should return to normal in time, but some things will still taste different because your new eating habits will make your taste buds satisfied with healthier foods and the old unhealthy foods won't be as attractive or triggering.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
