Had surgery 6 days ago, mostly pain free except for the near constant deep and awful hunger pain feelings. Mentally, not at all hungry, and drinking or a little bit of pureed things hasn't helped so I don't think it's really hunger. I've seen suggestions it could be stomach acid thing but I'm doing prilosec and tums but it doesn't seem to touch it. Did anyone else experience this? How did it last or what the cause in the end?

Your tummy continues to produce stomach acid, not as much post surgery but still more than you need to digest the small amount of food you’re currently consuming (well drinking 😉) plus fluids need less acid to digest. Talk to your surgery, you may need a higher dose of your esomeprazole to get you over the hump until you’re eating solid food again.

Congrats on your surgery.

I have been hungry since right after my surgery. I didn't care what I ate as long as there was some food in me. I can only eat a few oz of meat at one time, but then I'm hungry again right away. Metformin has been helping some, but some people DO still have hunger after surgery.

I just had surgery last Monday and now the hunger pains are so bad I can't eat much yet I've been taking bites of cottage cheese and I'll be ok maybe 20 minutes but then hunger pains all I wanna do is cry the biggest thing I wanted gone was the painful hunger feelings I'm feeling so discouraged and regretting this surgery but I can't go back feeling so miserable

That's exactly what I dealt with. Eventually my doctor put me back on metformin. I don't have diabetes, but it can help with weight loss by making you not hungry. I was so upset that I was hungry after surgery, but the psychologist at my surgery center says about 20% of her patients don't lose their hunger. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
