My surgery was on January 19th and my incisions are healing nicely. They are super itchy as well! I've been putting Mederma gel on them. Has anyone tried that Bio-Oil at all?

Yay, another January 19th!

I’m 5’9” and down 12 lbs since surgery and at least 30 lbs down since my pre-op diet started on December 22. My scale didn’t go beyond 400 lbs so I don’t actually know my highest weight, only that I was at least 410 lbs in late November 2022 (on the hospital’s scale).

My incisions are also healing nicely but yeah mine are also really itchy, which is a great thing as it means the nerve ends are healing like they should. I’m having my stitches removed next Thursday.

Hi all! I had surgery on 1/4 and am feeling a little down. I hear it’s normal, but I’m frustrated with the lack of progress. I’m almost 4 weeks out from surgery and down 14 lbs or so. How’s everyone else doing?

I understand your frustration. Remember that post-surgery swelling and lower grade inflammatory (even without Water retention, which is also a thing) can contribute with a lot of extra weight in the first 4-6 weeks. I haven’t had much of that now, but I definitely did after I had my second c-section in 2019 — three weeks later I was still carrying 20-25 lbs of swelling/fluid, then one week later it all disappeared almost overnight.

What was your starting BMI? If you were a “lightweight” that could also be a contributing factor. But some people just lose weight more slowly after surgery, nothing wrong with that either. ❤️

Hopefully you’re starting to feel better in other ways?

Omg, did I just wander into a year-old thread and respond to old posts? I’m sorry, I’m on the mobile app and must have clicked on the 2022 thread instead of the 2023 one. 😂

It will take about a week or so. Make sure to light walk around every hour to 2 hours for 10-15 mins. Take your meds and gasx. Use a hot water bottle or heating pad, and alternate with ice packs. Try a binder as well.

I would do hot Water bottle for an hour, and ice pack for 30 mins. Several times a day. If I was laying there I had heat or ice pack on my upper belly. This gave me the best comfort.

Use the spirometer, and this helps even though it can be painful.

I would also do light slow windmills with my arms to help work the air they fill you up with.

2 days post op, it isn't TOO bad. A lot of IVs though, and I dread the next few days because I have another IV infusion coming up. They are so painful, and I hate needles.. I think I have swelling on the left part of my belly. It doesn't hurt but it feels like it's weighing me down a bit when I stand. And for some reason, Water tastes sour for me now. Anyone else have these types of problems?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
