Strange Stomach Noises with Pain

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I had my Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y, Laparoscopic) August 17th 2005. I had my gall bladder taken out in May of 2007.

I can't say I remember when this started but I know I had talked to a doctor before about it. Sometimes I'll have a very bad onset of pain in my stomach. It will feel like I need to poop badly, instead nothing will move. I usually deal with this pain between 15-30 minutes. Then Suddenly I will hear this loud deep gargle from around my left side, the sounds sorta sound like something releasing pressure or steam. The feeling that goes with it i can not describe at all. I wanna say it feels like an inner burp. Then all the pain goes away like nothing ever happened. Like I said I asked my doctor about it, thinking maybe I have a leak or something like that in my pouch, but when I was checked everything had healed fine.

I have tried to see what causes this but it can happen at weird times where I haven't eaten anything at all since I was in a deep sleep, to drinking Water to eating a banana. It has happened at home, at work and when I was attending, at college. The worse is when it happens at work, sometimes I'll get a warning gargle so I can rush to the bathroom to be in pain in peace ( we have a nice family bathroom in the back where I can be for the time period)

I just want to know if anyone else has had this or something like it? I admit I haven't see my surgeon in over 10 years since my current insurance doesn't cover visits to him. I lost my parents insurance, after the insurance fully paid for my surgery, a month after my surgery, since I was no longer a full time student in college, since ya know I JUSST HAD MAJOR SURGERY lol

This might not be related to your surgery at all. Go see a doctor!
It could be a cyst that is filling up (causing the pain) & then it releases (causing the burp). My cousin had something similar but she heard a gurgling sound & then she was out of pain.

leaks are apparent right away - usually before you ever leave the hospital. You've been healed for years, so it wouldn't be that. And like toodlerue said, it might not even be related to your surgery. I'd see a doctor if it were me.

Sounds more bowel related & a colonoscopy may be warranted. Bariatric surgeons tend to specialise in the gastrointestinal area. From what you describe a colorectal surgeon may be more appropriate. Have you spoken with your GP?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
