2nd day on full diet and have been sick all day.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. This is my second day on full diet and I have been sick all day. I had Turkey sausage and boiled egg and the pepperidge farm oat light bread toasted. I tried to eat the Protein first but I would take a small bite of the toast intermittently. Needless to say I could not finish it all. When I felt myself approaching full, I stopped. But shortly after, I started feeling a little nauseous and my stomach argued with me loudly. Was I doing to much with this attempt to eat a meal?

I think a lot of people struggle with toast/bread at first. It tends to sit heavily in your stomach and can expand after eating. Also eggs can be difficult at first. I would take a break from both of those for a week and then try again to see if it's any better. In the meantime, you could try more advanced versions of the food that worked for you in earlier phases; for example if you liked refried Beans, the next step might be chili. Just be gentle with yourself.

yep - a lot of people have trouble with eggs the first few weeks/months. Also, sausage is kind of heavy and has spices (even though it's turkey rather than pork). So that might have contributed as well. I ate pretty blandly the first month or two.

I haven’t had surgery yet, but my instructions say to only add 1 solid food at a time and to see how it goes.

Thank you all for the advice. I really appreciate it. I will progress slowly from now on. So excited to finally eat, at least, the diet food I had been eating pre surgery that I started out the gate too fast! Lol!

Sounds like it was too much, too soon & too coarse/heavy. I agree with the others: go slowly. Even if you’re allowed solid foods doesn’t mean you jump in with both feet. I’m surprised you were allowed bread - it’s very filling - but all plans have differences. Check your portion sizes too. Were you given portion size recommendations &/or calorie goals for each stage? Personally I couldn’t eat a whole egg until I was close to goal let alone sausage & bread as well. But that was me.

I don't think anyone thinks you're an idiot. Those guides are written to cover a wide variety of folks and it sounds like your stomach just isn't ready yet. So just go a little bit slower. And do try the "problem foods" a month later. I couldn't eat whole Beans (puréed were fine) and then suddenly I was okay.

Thank you Viking beast. I admitted, I realized I jumped in too fast. I have had boiled egg on soft foods, so it must have been adding the Turkey sausage and diet bread. I admit, I could not eat even half of it. I am a carnivore, and was so excited to be able to eat meat again. I am also a sandwich person, so the thought of being able to make a small sandwich was enticing to me. Obviously, my new anatomy said no.

I was told to stay away from all carbs once able to eat 3 meals at one month post op plus 2 Protein Drinks for Snacks. I also recommend making soft boiled eggs not hard. The runny yolk helps ease the egg down. If you eat too fast or food is too dry you will feel sick, like something is stuck right in the middle of your chest. I have learned the hard way by getting sick a few times when I eat too fast. It's OK to not finish your whole meal. Its mentally annoying since we are so used to eating all of it but it's an adjustment you have to learn.

Thank you for your insights. My doctor never told me to stay away from carbs but in my post op book it says healthy carbs. I had sweet potatoes in soft diet stage and I do well with them. l am aware that they are the smallest portion on your plate. Also while grain bread in mentioned. idk when my stomach will let me but I believe there's a balance.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
