I’ll be 2 years out post VSG in January… lowest weight was 122 back in February… now I am 135 and I have an 18 month/2 year check up tomorrow!!!

I am freaking out! I’ve been working out and trying to gain muscle but this weight gain has me stressed, overwhelmed, depressed, you name it uhhhh.

Anyone else in the same situation want to talk and help each other out?

Well done on the weight you have lost.

It's not usual to gain a little weight in the 24 months or so following weight surgery from the lowest weight achieved.

If you are trying to gain muscle weight you will gain weight if you don't reduce body fat to the same degree or more.

Volume wise muscle is more dense than body fat. So a litre (in volume) will weigh more than body fat.

So while you have gained scale weight is it possible (with body recomp) that you have actually reduced physically in size? Are you clothes feeling a bit loose?

A dexa scan may be useful to you ( they seem to be much cheaper in the USA than most other places). It would give an idea of excess body fat and help you determine how much lean body mass you need to build as well as how much excess body fat you need to lose. For you at this stage it may be about body recomp vs scale weight loss.

ditto what Hop Scotch said. A 10-20 lb gain after you hit your lowest weight is VERY common. It's not inevitable, but it seems to happen to most of us. It's just your body settling in at a weight it wants to be (a "set point"). Of course, you can always go lower, but it'll take effort if this is indeed your new "set point". I know - I first gained 10 lbs that I was actually happy about since I'd gotten too low, but these last 10 lbs I am NOT happy with. It's a constant battle. But it can be done...

I appreciate the comments. I am starting to work out but the thing is that I know I’m not eating the healthiest so I think that’s part of it.

Here’s a question from a different angle: number on the scale aside, are you happy with how you look and feel? Sometimes the Quest for that number blurs the view (i’ve been guilty of this as well).

Your weight will fluctuate.. that is a given. Being ok while this happens will make life easier and less angst-y.

Do the best you can (or as much as you are willing to do), and make peace with the results of this, whatever it may be.

i know, i know, easier said.

Good Luck! ❤️

P.S. it really doesn’t matter what i think, but in my insignificant opinion, a 120lb weight loss is a phenomenal achievement. Congratulations!! Try to give yourself props instead of stress. It really, truly, isn’t worth it. Yeah, i know, easier said. *hugs*

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
