What was your first desert after sleeve?

Recommended Posts

A lot of people wait until their in maintenance to have desert for the first time but I wanted to know if I was going to dump on sugar so I had half of a candy bar to see how I tolerated it. I didn’t dump so now I know that I can have sugar in moderation during maintenance and I haven’t really craved it since. I have recently discovered the Quest candy bites. The caramel ones are my favorite. They are small so it’s only like 80 calories and there is at least some Protein in them.

I've opted not to have Desserts, treats, cheats, etc. until I am in maintenance or 1+ year out, whichever is sooner, even if I have the "ok" from my surgeon. I intend to stick to my plan !00% for the time being. My sleeve will never be more effective and weight loss be easier than it is right now, in the post-op honeymoon phase. If I want to be successful long-term, I need to be willing to give up some comforts in the short-term. The empty calories don't serve me or my goals and aren't helpful in any way. Additionally, I don't want to give myself any temptation to fall back into old habits that might hurt me in the long run. I support you in whatever decision you make, but I would suggest maybe holding off for a while. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

sugar free fudgesicles (40 calories each) were my fave dessert post-op. I would usually eat two 😏. I don’t mind artificial sweeteners, but some do.

sugar free popsicles, sugar free fudgesicles, Greek yogurt, or sugar free Jello topped with light or sugar free Cool Whip.

one of the first desserts I can remember was on Thanksgiving five months after my surgery. I brought a thing of Light & Fit pumpkin-flavored yogurt for my dessert. I think I enjoyed it just as much as I would have enjoyed pumpkin pie - and it was way healthier!

It’s a personal a thing. You know your strengths & weaknesses. I was an avoid sweet things person while I was losing - real sugar, artificial & alternatives. It is challenging as it seems like they put it in everything but avoiding it it did get rid of my desire for anything sweet. The first traditionally sweet thing I had was at Christmas (7 months after surgery & 1 month into maintenance) - I had a couple of teaspoons of Christmas cake & dessert. It was ok but I didn’t really want any more than what I ate. I don’t have desserts, cakes, biscuits, lollies, etc. much at all - go months without it. My sweet comes from fruit, yoghurt & a Protein Bar (low sugar ones cause a little sweet tastes crazy sweet to me now). I used to make chia pudding & flavoured it with vanilla if I really wanted something dessert-like.

pumpkin pie filling. I had surgery in November so a family member was testing out vegan pumpkin pie recipes from scratch. The ingredients was bare bones and had no sugar. It was basically freshly made pumpkin purée but felt like a real indulgence.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
