November Surgery Buddies!!!

It amazes me the different diets surgeons put you on. Mine had me on high Protein very low carbs. Absolutely no fruit. Yours looks like barely any Protein. So strange but I guess they have their reasons.

I find it pretty interesting as well... The pre-op diets really vary from doctor to doctor. I was instructed to do a strict 10 day liquid diet (protein shakes, broth, tea, sugar free jello) and the day before surgery I had to switch to a clear liquid diet (apple juice, tea, protein water) along with a colon cleanse laxative...

Now post-op, I'm on day 6 of the post-op clear liquid diet. Tuesday (after my 1 week checkup appointment) I'll be able to go back to drinking Protein Shakes, coffee, tea, as well as adding 2 tablespoons of grits, mal-to-meal, and yogurt! This diet lasts for 2 weeks. I'm really looking forward to this next phase! 🤗

My surgery is November 4 with Dr. Fok Russell through Medicalmex in Tijuana. I live in Missouri and wish I could've had it here but my insurance didn't cover.

My surgery is scheduled to be done in Mexico too. Mines will be done on December 10th. I’m guessing you’ve had the surgery by now. How did it go? Congratulations ☺️

I have my surgery on 11/19 with Dr. Misra in Beverly Hills, CA. I’m 33, 6’2” and a touch over 400lbs. I’m totally stoked to have my surgery and am getting all set up to have a boring thanksgiving alone!

My doctor requested I get a sleep study and endoscopy before surgery so I’m doing that this week.

I’ve only told my close family and couple friends so far.

Do you need to change anything tomorrow for the last day of your preop diet? My surgery is on Tuesday. I’m feeling anxious too and I’m afraid I’ll forget something. My instructions are nothing after midnight and to shower twice with antibacterial soap (night before and in the morning). Hopefully I haven’t missed anything. Good luck to both of you.

HI! My surgery is tomorrow as well. I am a bit anxious, but have the same instructions. I am supposed to eat my MEAL for Breakfast today, and then only Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids after that. Also, have to shower at night and in the am. Hope all goes well for you!

Good luck to you too. I’m getting ready to pack my overnight bag. I’m looking forward to getting closer to the day when we can eat solid food again.

I’m finding myself not hungry. (Pre-op)

I’m still supposed to be eating on my diet but yesterday I forgot to eat lunch (protein shake), had no Snacks all day, and got full at dinner really quickly.

Is that normal during the pre op diet? Did you still eat each meal even when you weren’t hungry?

(Surgery 11/19)

I went through this. Some days, I'd realize I had only 2 Protein shakes.. Or reach the night, with just breakfast.

However, I kinda paced/forced myself to always have at least 3-4 Protein Shakes, to ensure I got enough protein. No point in going into the surgery with your body weaker than it has to, IMHO.

Good luck! My surgery is tomorrow. My pre-op diet flew by. I’ve only told my husband, son, and mother. I guess I’ll tell a few more relatives at Thanksgiving dinner since I won’t be eating normally. I should be on the soft food stage by then. Unjury has a chicken flavored Protein Powder that you could have for Thanksgiving. I mix it with 140 degree Bone Broth and spices and it’s not too bad and the pumpkin pie flavored Premier Protein is pretty good too if you can find it.

I feel a similar way, not hungry at all throughout the day, but get hungry late at night… which we know is not the best time to consume all your calories even if it is through a shake and broth.

Got out of surgery at 10 am. Have been in terrible gas pain. I have walked and walked and they will only give me Tylenol for it. How long did your guys gas pain last? Maybe tomorrow morning it won’t be as bad??

Raise hell advocate for stronger meds for yourself or have someone do it for you. When I tell you I was on a self delivering morphine drip after surgery.

Gas pain lasted 2-3 days for me. It gets less and less progressively.

IF you can sip Water. 1 oz of water (in 2 small sips, spaced) did wonders to get the gas out.

As far as pain meds, I was on Tylennol, but this would not do much for the pain. However, you can ask for morphene, At my hospital (FL), the NP is allowed to give you at up to 3 doses without consulting with the Dr.

I asked for Gasx but to no avail. My wife hasn’t had the gas pains to bad today I guess they just put all her gas into me!! I will ask for something stronger than Tylenol if it will help. They told me gas pains can’t really be surpressed by narcotics. Not sure how true that is!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
