I swear I had a near death experience this afternoon with two small pieces of Brisket. Just whining, but oh damn, I won’t be having that again for awhile. What the heck? I’ve had it since sleeve, but WHEW, this time the new stomach said “oh hell no” and my entire digestive system began its revolt. It’s best I don’t go into details.

just for those of you new to the tool. It’s great, works like a champ if you work the program. But whew, every once in a while you get a harsh reminder that sometimes foods you used to love will bite you back!

Oh I hear you. I used to say my tummy is like a contrary 2yr old who throws random tantrums. Most annoying is when you tentatively try to eat the food your tummy revolted against two days later & it’s fine. WTF???

I’ve found it can be little things that set off the tantrum. Food a little too dry, too oily, too fatty. Ate a little too fast. Drank a little too close to eating or sometimes seemingly just for the hell of it. Thank gracious it’s the exception not the norm now.

Yikes! That sounds very unpleasant. I hope you're able to have it again someday. I have issues with Beans. I love beans, but I find now when I eat them, my stomach decides to make best friends with them and not let them go, if you know what I mean. I just get extremely bloated and just so uncomfortable with pressure, and it lasts for days until they finally decide to call their relationship quits. Usually, I need a laxative to help it along.

OK, so yesterday I was just whining about the pain in my stomach - Today, it STILL hurts. Stomach feels like a rock is in there. Nothing seems to be blocked, not getting any burning in my chest - Not throwing up. Just an intense pain in my middle abdomen. NEVER had this happen before. Of course I'm googling at 3am and still not coming up with anything. I'll give this another 24 hours, but geesh, might have to call the doc if I don't get some relief.

I'm 2 weeks post-op today and trying to figure out the new "plumbing." Luckily, I haven't had any awful reactions yet, not much to react to when I'm still on purees, but I know its coming and I just have to keep reminding myself that its all part of the process. I hope the pain passes and you feel better soon! Definitely reach out to your surgeon if it doesn't go away. A little upset is normal, days of pain is not!

It's so frustrating to have something that you have eaten successfully in the past suddenly "revolt."

Ironically, I had a similar experience yesterday. I ate a meal I have had multiple times in the past weeks. I did not eat too much, too fast or any of the other usual culprits. I woke up about 5 hours later and I could have sworn the monster from "Alien" was trying to escape my stomach. Like yours, the pain was in the middle of my abdomen. My stomach was gurgling horribly and I felt both nauseated and as if I needed to use the bathroom. I was not successful on either end. The pain lasted about an hour and then I was able to go back to sleep. I feel fine today but have limited eating to a few fresh berries, a shake and yogurt. I had no more pain, but there was more noises.

I had some problems with pain in my upper chest on the right side. It was the weekend, so I went to an urgent care place, and they did a EKG and said it looked OK. I went to my heart doc, and he said it was on the wrong side to be my heart.

Then I called the surgeon's office. They suggested it was retained gas, and prescribed simethicone. It helps, so now I take it routinely. You can buy it over the counter. The name brand is Gas-X. The prescription ones are a bit stronger.

So the pain became a little more intense and my doctors office didn't call back so I decided to go to the ER. Good news... Bad News... Good News, I can probably eat Brisket again (hey, I'm trying to be positive here!). Bad news, it's Colitis - Apparently I have a severe infection (2 antibiotics for 7 days) and get to see a new kind of doc. Honestly, I was hoping for this to be a simple gallbladder kind of deal.

On a positive note, I've got no doubt I'll lose the remaining 10lbs with this issue! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
