Stepped on by small dog (Ouch!)

Recommended Posts

My friend came over with his two little dogs last night. The 15 pounder was trying to lick me to death and she stepped on my stomach and now it really hurts NEAR the incision but not exactly on it. I'm three weeks out and the bandages and steri-strips have come off a while ago, and of course I was wearing a shirt but I'm just surprised at how much it hurts. I don't see any difference in the incision, and it doesn't feel hot to the touch or bruised or swollen. I took tylenol, but it didn't help.

I'd try to call my surgery center, but they never return my calls. Any suggestions? Should I be concerned?

I don't want to go so far as to say that you shouldn't be concerned, just chiming in with my experience that a dozen or so times, I was convinced I'd done something terrible (accidentally picking up something too heavy, bending over too much, twisting the wrong way, etc and then being really sore) and it always ended up OK.

It is times like these that try our souls.

Maybe getting the dogs some treats will help smooth over their trauma. If you handle things just so your relationship with your friend may not suffer over much, though the dogs may never forgive you.

You mention calling your surgical center. The dogs will likely appreciate other sources of treats and affection.

Remember, this is not about you. It's about the dogs.

Good luck,

Tek

I sneezed once and felt sore for hours.

(and I turned out ok, 😂)

I have a 15 pounds dog and their little paws can be like little pokers sometimes. I would imagine if it was just near the incision it should be fine. Sorry that you can’t just get guidance from your surgery center. My primary care doctor’s office is unresponsive like that and I am going to go to this one last annual appointment just so I can talk to him personally to let him know what is going on with his staff and then changing doctors (unless he convinces me otherwise but I doubt it).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
