Hi all! Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a few days short of my two month post op anniversary (RNY). So far I have lost 66lbs (starting weight 470, highest weight 515). I am still on the chopped diet but I have been working in whole foods here and there. Still playing the "what's going to stay down" game, but enjoying the journey so far! I was kind of expecting a little more weight loss at this point but hell, any is better than none! I have hit a few stalls in the process but nothing longer than a few days. I look forward to "meeting" some of you!

Welcome.

66 pounds at 2 months is pretty darned good. I started a fair chunk higher than you (I also suspect I started out taller at 6'4") and managed roughly a couple pounds less than you in the first 2 months. I recall also being mildly disappointed and I had to scale back my expectations.

Continued success and good luck,

Tek

Thanks Tek. We are actually the same height, 6 foot 4! And that's what I have had to do over the past few... Put myself in check and scale my expectations. So long as the numbers are going down and not up I am happy!

Congratulations!

Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Remember in the old dieting days how many dietitians would say two pounds a week is a big loss? You’ve lost 66 in eight weeks… that’s incredible.

Congratulations on losing 66 pounds already! It sounds like you have lost a lot to me. My surgery was about 2 months ago, and I would love to have lost 66 pounds by now! I think I expected to lose more my first month, but I'm just happy it is coming off. Hoping your foods start to stay down better soon. I wish you continued success with your weight loss.

I started out much heavier than you - 373 lbs - and lost 16 lbs the first month and 12 lbs the second. Rate of weight loss depends on so many factors, many of which you have little to no control over (e.g., age, gender, % of muscle you have, starting BMI, etc). If you stick to your program, keep active, and the weight is trending downward, then you're good!

🤣Yes, I know there are a lot of factors going into how much you lose!😁 I think we (well, I did) secretly hope to be at the higher end of the weight loss averages at first, but realistically I knew I'd be in the middle or lower end (especially with having Hashimoto's & PCOS). I was just trying to congratulate Bill_VT & express that 66 was a lot to lose in 2 months, but I also understood hoping (wishing) for more! ☺

(Really, I'm pleased with my loss so far & trying my best to stick to the plan😉)

“Ugh... I can't tell you how many times I felt like a POS for failing a diet...

I remember at my first psych appointment my psychologist said “You didn’t fail the diets….the diets failed you.”

You’re doing fabulously, Bill!!

Thank you so much! I like that saying... It's similar to what my Dr said! It's comforting to know that some people understand the struggle!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
