DUMPING 9 DAYS POST OP

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I experienced DUMPING - DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN.

I had nausea, pain, high heart rate, cold sweats, and i threw up (water since i am still in my full liquid phase)

I was wondering why i wasn't feeling well and it was because i had drank too much, too fast, too often! (supposed to be an one ounce every 10-15 MIN)

Which in my defense, in the beginning i could drink as much as i wanted. With the exception of a little soreness going down but i never had the 'full' sensation until this morning.

So i more than likely over did it.

Today i am so much better :)

I had this happen on my first day moving from liquids to purees--I ate about 2/3 of a scrambled egg and it hit my stomach like a rock. I felt full for hours afterward and couldn't eat anything, and then ended up fainting in my bathroom. I nearly gave my fiance a heart attack and I got to take a fun ride in an ambulance. 😐

@pintsizedmallrat Oh NO! Glad you're okay! For me it was kind of the same. I had the nausea, the cold sweats, the hot flashes and I was full all day, I didn't drink anything from 3PM until about 4AM this morning and slept it off . I felt like i needed to reset. Glad i did, because i feel so much better and i am able to take liquids better today.

That's what I ended up doing too--the next day it was Protein Shakes and brothy Soup ONLY. I've eaten scrambled eggs since then without issue, I just think it was too much too quickly.

I don't believe what you experienced was dumping. Dumping is usually caused by too much sugar and/or fat. It sounds like you ate too much, too fast.

Well the doctor at the emergency room AND my surgeon seemed to agree that was what happened. I trust their opinion.

I tend to agree with this. You’re not going to dump on Water. I’ve never dumped but had the foamies countless times. The sides are very similar to dumping but take a look at what you consumed to know the difference. Also, I wouldn’t put much faith in ER doctors when it comes to bariatric surgery. Take this as first hand experience from working in an ER for 10 plus years as a nurse and being a bariatric patient myself.

I understand that about ER doctors, but the decision and diagnosis was made with my surgeon, who was contacted and provided with my chart. I actually didnt say anything about it happening "on water"--if you read what I had actually said (I am not the OP; I am a commenter from downthread), I ate scrambled eggs on my first day OFF liquids moving to purees. So I did not experience dumping syndrome "on water", I experienced it "on" Scrambled Eggs one week post-surgery.

I was quoting Maisey and agreeing with what they stated, I didn’t realize you weren’t the original poster. Not sure if Maisey was speaking directly to you or the original poster.

FYI eggs are notorious for causing the foamies. I’ve seen countless people here say they cannot tolerate them early on. I’m 6 months post surgery and still can’t eat a single egg without having mild foamies.

FYI I still can’t eat eggs. Makes me nauseous I’m 3 years out.

Whoa. Was told about dumping. Never ever heard of foamies. Just googled it. Ew. Now I'm worried, because I've had scrambled eggs, and chicken. Definitely need to be more careful.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
