MshellL87 2 Posted September 28, 2021 Hi.. I am wondering if anyone has experienced basically minimal weight loss with ESG? I had mine on Sept. 8th and have gone down only between 1-3 pounds this whole time. I’m very frustrated and sad. I feel like I should have had more than basically a pound of weight loss in 3 weeks. I feel like the only thing I have lost is money and hope. (Yes I’m following everything correctly.) I don’t understand how I’m one of the only people to not lose weight with a weight loss procedure like this. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

MshellL87 2 Posted September 28, 2021 My doctor called in last week and that was when I said I was about 3 pounds down. (Which is now closer to 1.. it had been fluctuating, but I decided to say 3, for some reason.) All he said was, “okay different for everyone. Your starting weight wasn’t as high as some, so maybe you will be slower to lose. Exercise and eat right. I’ll see you in 2.5 months.” I’m feeling very sad. If I were at 3 lbs lost, maybe I’d be okay. But only 1 has me concerned. He is the best doctor in my area for this, but I honestly feel like I had no procedure. I am wondering if there is a way to check and see if my stomach was made small enough? I’m getting desperate.
The Greater Fool 2,054 Posted September 28, 2021 Everyone reacts differently to surgery. The 3 week stall is a thing, but it does not necessarily wait until the 3rd week. Your surgeon isn't worried and he did comment that you were a lower BMI to start, probably lost weight before surgery, so not losing much the first 3 weeks does not sound way out of whack. So... Get off the scale. It is crazy making and distracting and discouraging you. You don't need it for the important stuff. The important stuff: keep following your plan. Exercise if you are so inclined. Keep doing both. If you follow your plan, you will do fine. It will be OK. Honest. Good luck, Tek 1 1 lizonaplane and MshellL87 reacted to this

If you are still having a very low rate of weight loss (lower that expected by your surgeon) by the next surgeon appointment, please express your concerns and don’t hide the true weigh loss amount. If you still have lingering concerns request an endoscopy to check the suturing. Elidh 240 Posted September 28, 2021 (edited) ESG =Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is a newer type of minimally invasive weight-loss procedure. In endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, a suturing device is inserted into your throat and down to your stomach. The endoscopist then places sutures in your stomach to make it smaller. Hop_Scotch 1,632 Posted September 29, 2021 Stomach volume after an ESG is more than a surgical sleeve. Average excess weight loss is only about 20%, some will lose more some will lose less. Did you lose weight before your procedure (if so, how much?), what was your weight on procedure day and what is your height?
MshellL87 2 Posted September 29, 2021 Hi.. I just had to do one day of liquid diet before procedure. I went in around 150. As of today (3 weeks out) I weigh 148. Yesterday I was 147, the day before 148.5. So not much of anything is happening on the scale. I have been between 151-145 for a year and desperately want to be at my goal weight of 125. (Which is heathy for my height of 5 ft 3 in) I was initially worried I would lose weight too quickly or somehow get below my goal weight. I no longer worry about that. Just worry that the procedure will not do much for me.
sillykitty 10,776 Posted September 29, 2021 I'm very surprised a surgeon would perform WLS on someone with a 26 BMI
MshellL87 2 Posted September 29, 2021 It wasn’t an easy decision. I worked with him and other options for over a year and a half.. but he was fine doing it in the end because my goal weight is healthy and it would be losing 15-20% of my total body weight. I realize it’s not typical. 1 sillykitty reacted to this
Hop_Scotch 1,632 Posted September 29, 2021 With such a low start weight, your weight loss is definitely going to be slower and lower than most, even in the immediate post op stages. The ESG will give you some restriction but you will be able to eat more than someone with a surgical procedure. Your calorie deficit isn't likely to be as great, and therefore weight losses lower/slower. Your calorie intake is going to have be tight to keep up a good calorie deficit. 1 MshellL87 reacted to this
