I usually try to get 1.5 servings of fruit per day and I always try to get some veggies in. Right now since I'm close to 7 weeks post-op revision to RNY, I am still keeping it in liquid form so I make a Protein Shake. I put a tablespoon of GENEPRO, baby spinach, 1/2 frozen banana, 4-6 strawberries (sometimes add plums and/or mango) with unsweetened almond milk (or lowfat kefir) and ice in a blender. Vegetables I've been either air frying zucchini or putting napa cabbage, spinach... Etc. in my broths.

This is honestly one of my bigger concerns post-op. (I am currently pre-op) I see many bari patients showing their meals for the day and the fruits/veggies are lacking! Even though I'm overweight, I really do enjoy my fruits and veggies. I very much enjoy my green smoothies and try to incorporate them as often as possible.

No problem with dumping from the natural sugars?

No, not at all for me.

If your plan allows you to eat certain fruits or vegetables go for it but blend the whole fruit or vegetable don’t juice. Most plans suggest a staged return to eating fruits & vegetables & identify specific ones ones to avoid especially as they can be hard on your healing digestive system or are considered too much starch, too many carbs, too much sugar (natural) depending on your eating plan.

When you juice your miss out on a lot of the essential nutrients & fibre fruits & vegetables have. Plus you consume more serves of the fruit or vegetable than you would consuming it whole. You should still consider portion size & calorie contention relation to your plan.

Honestly, I used to add 25-50ml of juice to my yoghurt drink (every 2nd or 3rd day) from purée stage because it was a little too thick to drink initially. My dietician okayed it because it was a small amount & not every day. I did it for a month or so.

I started including vegetables in Soups from purée stage, then just included some in what ever slow cooked meal or Soup I was making in soft food. Steamed & microwaved them from solid food. Ate fresh fruit from about month 3.

Thanks, I'll call and see if I can speak with a dietician.

I eat a sh*t tonne of veggies. Not so much most of the first year post op (not much room after Proteins, honestly), with ZERO issues.

Fruits once in a while..i generally stick to berries if I do. But i will occasionally have apples, grapes, oranges. Also watermelon, pineapple, mangoes but rarely or in very small amounts cuz the sugars in these do tend to make me dump.

I almost never drink any sort of juice though. All the good stuff (i.e., fibre) is taken out! Plus the sugar tends to be more concentrated.

Everyone will have a different experience. Best to try in small amounts to see how YOU, yourself will fare.

Good Luck! ❤️

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
