There were a few days in those first few weeks when I just did not feel like eating, but I tried to get my Protein (shakes) & Water in the best I could. Once I started soft foods, there were some meals where I only ate a bite or 2. Once you are healed further from the surgery and can eat a variety of foods, it should get better.

Good luck, I hope things improve for you.

Is anyone going through the same thing I'm going through I am 3 weeks out and I have no desire to eat. Is this normal?

I was the same (even at 3 weeks). I just ate the recommended small servings and focused on getting Water and Protein in. Your appetite will return but enjoy this period where you're not hungry. It will never be easier to lose weight!

I'm 5 months out and still have more days than not, that I am not hungry and will force myself to eat a little something or drink a Protein Shake. And when I am hungry now, it is nothing like it was before surgery. It may be a slight hunger pang in my belly, then if I ignore it, it goes away...before surgery, the hunger only would intensify.

I enjoy not having food control my thoughts throughout the day. I know the true hunger will come back. Hopefully, I will have vanquished the "head" hunger for good before that happens! Good Luck to you!

You’ll find people have lots of different experiences about this. I wasn’t interested in eating for months & wasn’t hungry. I ate to a routine because I knew I had to eat but it was why my calorie intake was lower than many. I experienced my first hunger at 8 months (& it was real hunger) but didn’t really get my appetite back or feel hungry more regularly until about 18months.

28 months post surgery, I still have days I’m either not really hungry or not really interested in eating. Yesterday, I didn’t finish my Breakfast & had my lunch for dinner. It doesn’t bother me because it helps me maintain & balance out those days I may eat a little more than I should.

I lost all hunger and all interest in food until about month 5 post-op. Not uncommon. And it was WONDERFUL! I wish my hunger and appetite had never come back! It was so liberating not to think about food - ever. And so easy to lose weight when I didn't give a flip about food! Savor it and take full advantage of it. For most of it, it does eventually come back, and then things get a lot more challenging.

I'm with catwoman7 on this one. I am loving not being obsessed about eating (especially late at night where I've always ran into problems in the past). I am dreading, although preparing, for the honeymoon period to end. Embrace it, just means your surgery is working. Contact your surgeon if you can't keep anything down, extreme nausea, breathing problems or fever... Etc.

I'm 5 weeks out, and I don't have much desire to eat. Sometimes I get an empty feeling that might be hunger (I'm not sure) but unlike the olden days I can just ignore it and move on. I have no cravings and very little interest in food.

Like others have said, I find this liberating! It's so nice to not obsess about food. I'm sure this won't last, so I am taking advantage of it as long as it does. I'd rather feel like this than be hungry all the time.

Even though I am not interested in food or eating, I still eat to a schedule and track all my intake, focusing on Water and Protein goals. The structure is helpful for me. Sometimes, I set reminders for myself using the Echo/Alexa, reminding myself to drink (after the 30 min post food wait), reminding myself to eat a planned snack or meal, etc. It is helpful when my body doesn't signal me.

I am 10 weeks out and really struggle to eat. Nothing is appealing. I know I am loosing weight to fast and I can't even eat just to eat it's crazy. Unlike the rest of you my mind is consumed with thoughts of food constantly. I keep thinking you have to eat etc. It's a struggle.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
