Surgery Tomm - Gastric Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Any advice? Anyone rec'd it and then hated the results - or had any issues? I'm a self pay - BMI is 33.5 and I have high BP, pre-diabetes, and anxety. Wondering what others experienced - especially those with similar story...LMK.

My BMI was 34.3. Sleeved (self-pay) in July 2020 at age 67, and have lost 51 pounds. My weight loss has really slowed down (maybe a pound/month now), but I am SO GLAD I went this route. I am about 10 pounds from goal. One of the best things I have ever done for myself. ZERO REGRETS.

Thank you so much for the feedback. Any issues (if I may ask) with loose skin? I'm 45 y/o BTW.

I am 42 had a 35 BMI and I am six months out from sleeve. I have lost 55 pounds. Made my first goal recently and 20 pounds from my actual goal. Absolutely best decision ever.

Just a little loose skin on belly, but not bothersome enough to do anything (like cosmetic surgery) about.

Surgery went well. Got a hematoma in my larger incision and there was a severe shooting pain so spent an extra night at the hospital. But after a full night sleep and the dr applying a binder and ice packs, I woke up today feeling much better and ready to go hone. Walked around. An tolerating the 1 ounce at a time fluids (mainly Water and broth) & passing gas - never thought I’d be excited about that. Lol. Overall feeling good, despite the sometimes judgmental looks or comments from the staff about being a cash patient. But overall staff has been good and I can’t say enough about my Dr. his bedside manner, advice, availability even late at night has been an absolute blessing. ❤️

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
