Ok...

I have been on Clear liquids for exactly one month now! I had my surgery 2 weeks ago. I had to be on Clear Liquids 2 weeks before to prepare for the surgery... and now I'm suppose to stay on them for 4 weeks after.. which... ahem means I have 2 more weeks left! (6 week total liquid diet for me)

So I've been watching people eat around me... smelling food all the time... seeing it on the t.v. everyday... for one month now. It's killing me! I've done it all... popsicles, Jello, broth, Protein shakes... BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.... Yes, I've tried everything to make it interesting and I'm just having a hard to surviving this. I've made it this far but tonight I started to slip.. DUN, DUN, DUN...

Everyone went to sleep and I shamefully started tasting the condiments... haha. ranch dressing, BBQ Sauce, even ketchup! There's an apple pie half eaten on the counter and I picked an apple out of it and sucked the glaze off! HOW PATHETIC! haha! Man, i have to admit, I'm really struggling with these last two weeks. I want to eat so bad. :phanvan

Hey, at least you are not eating what you shouldn't. A little taste here and there of Condiments is not so bad. I know I got sick if sweet stuff (protien shakes) and Soups during my liquid phase! You are not being all that bad! I did the "chew up the food and spit it out" routien to during my liquid phase. Funny, I never thought to do the "condiment" thing! LOL!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
