Others noticing weight loss

Recommended Posts

Last night my husband and I ran into a guy that we used to bowl against when we did league (before COVID made that too much of a risk). He didn’t say anything to me but he went and told my husband right away he barely recognized me. I guess he felt it was inappropriate to say to a female? I was glad that someone noticed and sorta glad that it wasn’t made a big deal of too. So it worked out. I got my reassurance that it is visible without too much attention to make me uncomfortable.

It took 75 lbs before I really had my first comment. Then it was non stop. It has luckily slowed down a bit at this point, only because most of the people who felt the need to comment on it have already done so. Thank goodness people are finally getting used to it. But I do still get a few mentions a week, and when I see people for the first time in a few years I will always get comments. I’m currently 163 lbs down.

My favorite is the few comments I’ve gotten from people who will say “have you always been so tall”. I didn’t have a growth spurt in my 40s, guys. But 5’10 looks different at 176 vs 339. Figure it out.

It’s happening more nowadays…work, neighbors, etc. Half “you’ve lost some weight “ and half “You look so good!” People who usually don’t talk with me much.

Why is the space that someone takes up so important to others? And why does anyone need to comment on someone else’s body?

And if I look “great” now, what did they think of my image a year ago?

I realize that some people thrive on these types of comments, and I am glad that they are helping. But do these comments make anyone else uncomfortable and a bit irritated?

So now that I'm down a significant amount of weight, I get more people telling me I look younger. Maybe because my face isn't all stretched out?

I also notice that people are much nicer to thinner people than they are to fatter people. That annoys me (I am still the same person!) but it's just bizarre. Someone flirted with me the other day and it took me a while to realize it was flirtation.

I totally get where you’re coming from.. I also get uncomfortable because I hate knowing they’re looking at me and ‘sizing me up’ because I still feel super big, but it really depends on who is commenting. If it’s a random someone I would rather they just keep their thoughts to themselves, but I really do like when friends or family compliment me ☺️

I think people notice, but are quicker to comment on the negatives then the positives unfortunately! If they don’t notice my weight loss yet at 60lbs I like to think they notice my confidence gain lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
