These forums go back to early 2000's Pick a date and start reading and you will be able to find your perfect surgery fit. Then you can read the forum more suited to you. Myself and the surgeon came to the same decision on which type of surgery was for me. Sleeve.

Have you decided you want to have surgery? If so, are you planning to pay out of pocket or does your insurance cover it? Have you gone to your primary care doctor to get their recommendations? Have you researched the different types of procedures? Which procedures are offered will depend on the surgeon you see (the place I'm going only does sleeve and bypass).

It is very hard to lose weight and if you have a lot to lose (like 100 lbs or more) the only way it's going to happen and that you'll keep it off (still not a sure bet) is through surgery. It's not "the easy way out;" it's still very hard. There are a lot of doctors visits and nutritionist, psychologists, etc before you can have surgery.

I suggest checking out https://asmbs.org/ to start your research.

Read a book or two about bariatric surgery. I recommend Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies and How Weight Loss Surgery Really Works by Matthew Weiner, MD.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
