So my surgery was supposed to be in August but got postponed because of a spike in COVID cases. So now it’s tomorrow. And suddenly I am second guessing myself. I’ve gone too far to back out now, but I am so worried I am making a mistake. I’m self pay and I keep worrying about complications. I guess this is probably normal but I am freaking out a bit.

Totally normal to be freaking out. Just remember why you're doing this and keep your eye on the prize! It's new territory to those of us in pre-op, but the surgeons know what they're doing. Good luck! You'll be fine!

My VSG was yesterday. The worst parts are not being about right drunk enough Water (get some Biotene spray, it’ll hep with dry mouth), the gas bubbles from all the gas they inflated me with, and just how easily I get tired.

I barely feel anything from the incisions, can get up and down without issues, and can sleep on my side if I’m careful about turning.

I had the same exact thing happen. I’m a cash pay as well and I was postponed from Aug to Sept. I had all the same thoughts too. My surgery was last week and I’m so happy I did it and it’s over. The waiting and the liquid diet is really the hardest part. Breathe and go to your happy place.

The dry mouth/dehydration thing is definitely something I'm not looking forward to. Adding Biotene spray to my list of things to take along with lip balm.

Hope the gas goes away quickly! My MGP surgeon did my Cholecystectomy and I didn't get any gas pain afterwards so I'm hoping like crazy that he can work that magic again.

How did the surgery go @Jinxavier?

I felt the same way right before. I think it was just cold feet. I'm 1 week post op and SO GLAD I did it!!

My VSG surgery was Monday September 13th. I'm now officially 3 days post-OP! I am currently experiencing no pain, just a little bit of gas due to them having to pump me up with gas for the procedure. The trick to relieving this is WALKING! I'm kind of having an issue with my Fluid intake tho, but other than that I am one happy camper and sooooo excited to start this new chapter of my life!

My Gastric Bypass is on September 21st! 5 days away! I can't wait. But the biggest thing I am dreading is gas pains. I had them with my gallbladder surgery and they were awful!

I'm getting sleeved on 9/21 and I'm right there with you on the gas pains. I had laparoscopic surgery for an ovarian cyst a few years ago, and the gas pain was by far the worst part of the recovery! I've got a couple boxes of Gas-X and my heating pad ready! It will be worth it!

I’m 5 days post op. I’ve had a very difficult day 3 with severe constipation and cramps. That finally subsided and I’m starting to feel better. I’m still suffering from gas from the surgery but even that’s better now. I was doubting my decision a few days ago and I even asked my doctor “what the hell have I done” but I’m back feeling good about it.

I didn’t do a ton of research and support groups prior to making my decision because I didn’t want to read negative comments. My Mom died two years ago and I saw myself going down the same road so I knew I had to make a change regardless of which direction I went.

My condolences on your mother. I had my surgery on September 7 and I didn’t do a lot of research as well I just knew about it thru my sister having hers almost 10 years ago and it changed her life it stopped the diabetes that runs thru to our family. I was on metformin and And I had to start taking truliciy. And that’s when I got really scared and thought about my father passing away from renal failure. I didn’t have the problem with Constipation because my paperwork said that I could drink Decaf coffee and non-dairy Products. So of course I use that non-dairy Creamer the powder and it made me dump so I was lucky I guess not to get the constipation but I wish I hadn’t done that to myself LOL. I hope everything goes well for you.

Well I’m home thank goodness. I’m having more pain than I expected but he fixed a hernia and did a liver biopsy so that may be why it’s hurting more. I’m so glad to be home. It’s a lot easier to get to the bathroom from my recliner than from that hospital bed. I haven’t noticed much gas pain, just pulling on the incisions. And I’m feeling better mentally. Being home just makes everything better.

My gastric bypass was on 9/17! I’m officially 2 weeks out and down 17 lbs from my surgical weight. I’m psyched I found this thread- I feel like there are more people that get the sleeve than get the bypass. I’ve suffered from acid reflux since childhood, so when they asked which surgery I was interested in, it seemed to me like a 2 birds, 1 stone thing, you know?

How is everyone doing?

I know, it does feel like we're a smaller group! I had originally imagined I'd be getting the sleeve, but because I was already a GORD sufferer, my surgeon pretty much talked me out of the sleeve. Initially I was extremely down and anxious about it, but going with the MGB was 100% the right call. Quality of life with a sleeve and worse GORD would have been horrible.

Congrats on your first 2 weeks and amazing loss!

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 9/16 in Cincinnati at JourneyLite...I am doing OK so far, one scare with dumping syndrome on the first day I was able to eat purees, and ended up in the ER because I fainted in the bathroom but other than that, great!

I need to find something pureed that is a good source of iron--I have these intense cravings for red meat (something I shouldn't really have until December!) and I can't take Vitamins other than B-12 yet

Wow! What a coincidence, I had my surgery at Journeylite in Cincinnati on the 13th of September as well. Dr. Agusta was my surgeon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
