YeseniaFig 1 Posted August 28, 2021 Hello I just got my surgery August 25 and right now I’m on the clear liquid and Protein diet. My doctors gave me a binder to wear and sleep in and it does help a lot when walking. I’m just trying to find people who are in a similar situation
catwoman7 11,221 Posted August 28, 2021 I never had a binder after my weight loss surgery, so not sure. I never had a problem with walking, though.
Stalled 32 Posted August 29, 2021 (edited) Did you happen to have a hernia that they fixed during the surgery? That's the only time I've heard of someone having a binder after surgery. Maybe it depends on what surgery you had? I only know for my gastric sleeve I was a textbook case and didn't need a binder but my mom had her hernia fixed at the same time and did need a binder. I know you didn't ask, but for people who are curious, binders are great for encouraging the muscles to rebind and heal in the correct positions. It is why they are recommended to women after they have c-sections. I don't think there is any harm to wearing the binder as long as you are keeping your incisions clean. Binders do sometimes increase the risk of infections since it is so tight to your body and sweat can soak into it. Edited August 29, 2021 by Stalled
jroyster77 0 Posted August 29, 2021 I just had my rny on Thursday and I ordered a binder yesterday from Amazon. The pain is really manageable when I'm being still but when I have to get up or down and engage those core muscles it's very painful. Hoping the binder helps with that!Sent from my SM-N981U using BariatricPal mobile app
YeseniaFig 1 Posted August 29, 2021 I don’t have a hernia. My doctors gave it to me because he told that the patient’s whom used the binder healed quicker. I can walk without it but the gravity in the new stitches can really hurt and can even lead to sagging. I love the binder but I do take breaks from it and wash it. I just feel more stable with it. 1 Stalled reacted to this
jujubeela 0 Posted August 29, 2021 I had a binder for a day or two after surgery. I was coughing a lot so it helped brace myself. My coughing has subsided and my incisions are feeling better, I've stopped wearing one.
