I'm 2 1/2 month post op. I've lost a total of 36lbs since surgery day.

I get frustrated and even little sad when I get on the scale and it's saying I just gained almost 5lbs in 3 days. How does that happen?

Well its unlikely to be a fat gain, its likely to be a temporary scale weight gain likely caused by Fluid retention or something else. Keep following your guidelines and you will be fine.

If you have Constipation at the moment, that could be a factor too.

Also make sure you weigh the same time of day each time, best is first thing in the morning after going to the toilet. Make sure the scales are in the same place and that the batteries do not need replacing.

You didn't mention if you had changed what your are eating or drinking in the past couple of days or if you eating more volume? Have you started to exercise? Do weight or strength training? All these could result in temportary fluid retention.

If you get your period, it could be pre-menstrual hormonal changes, too. (The other biological sex has hormonal fluctuations, too, but not as much.)

Daily weight fluctuations can be up to 5 pounds. I wouldn't worry about it. It's frustrating, I know, but it's normal.

the other posters are right - it's almost certainly due to Water retention, Constipation, or hormones. There's no way you could gain 5 lbs of true weight in three days unless you've eaten 17,500 calories more than what your body needs (since it takes 3500 calories to gain one pound - so 17,500 for 5 pounds)

I think most of us who have been on less than 1000 calorie diets find it angering when we step on the scale and see anything except a loss every day. To restrict yourself to such few calories and not lose weight every day is puzzling to me. But, the body does what the body does and goes through it's own reset and rebalancing and will lose when it is ready. Basic math tells me I should lost at least a half pound each and every day. Some days it is a pound, 2 pounds, nothing or even a gain of a pound. Very frustrating for sure.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
