lavila7046 3 Posted October 5, 2021 Thank you for that insight, my surgery date was 09.27, however maintaining the liquids are very hard as I always feel full after a few sips, I know I’m dehydrated as my urine had changed color ( sorry TMI ) however I’m just unsure is that normal to be dehydrated even though you can barely get any liquids down? And if I force it I feel bloated. 1 mechele99 reacted to this

I found I had to hold a bottle of Water or other liquid in my hand all day long to keep drinking enough. I would just take a few small sips every few minutes. Some people set alarms. By the end of the first week I had no trouble getting 80 oz of Fluid in, but I don't think everyone is able to do that. Call your surgery center if you are concerned. Arranging for fluids if you are dehydrated does not have to be a big deal. I called my surgery center and they made an appointment for me to go to the hospital as an OUT PATIENT and I got two bags of fluids. I was drinking more and more each day so that one time was all I needed to get me over the hump. 1 OutdoorsGirl reacted to this
FoxFace21 0 Posted October 6, 2021 Had VSG surgery 9/14 in Los Gatos, CA…did have 10-day preop diet of prescribed high Protein shakes/soups/liquids plus hearty salad daily until Clear Liquids only day before procedure. Full three weeks out and trying to find my way with transition to blenderized foods and more than just liquids/purées, but definitely find some items don’t sit well and feel very heavy. Was walking too much and experiencing burning sensation on right side near largest incision so I backed off, but feeling like weight loss is slower than expected. I feel a pain on my right side near the largest incision whether I'm walking or not... I feel like the weight loss is slower than expected, but I know it depends a lot on your starting weight. I have lost 15 lbs in the 3 weeks since surgery, so I think that's fine. My surgery BMI was 40 I believe, so I think you won't see huge weight loss unless you had a really high BMI. Plus, if you lost a lot of weight prior to surgery, you won't see much weight loss right away. Also, this is not a race... many people who lose slowly can lose all the weight they want to, it just happens over time. 1 FoxFace21 reacted to this
stefania_th 0 Posted October 6, 2021 Hello. I am new to this app. I am 45 yrs old. I have struggled with weight in the past 21 yrs ( after my first born ) and I have been yo-yo ing pretty high numbers each year. I had gastric sleeve surgery on the 28th of September in Lithuania. I had BMI 33.1 and self paid. Knee and joint pains where a drive to get this surgery and also that I found that my drive for training was non existent ( I used to be very active) So starting day 9 here. I have a ton of energy ( which I did not think I would have while eating nothing) but I am having issues getting my Water and liquids down. It takes time. My belly makes “gurgling” sound every time I drink something. I have a itch and some tension in one of the incisions. I have 5 incisions total. The only forum for people like my in my country is a Facebook group but I am not on there so that’s why I am happy to find this app. I have been reading up in the past few days and lot of helpful stuff here. Thanks for that.

Azalea Crosby 9 Posted October 12, 2021 2 1/2 weeks out from rny, eating soft foods ok (introducing a new one every day) and getting in Water. I think I'm swallowing air though I am trying very hard not to. I have many burps and gurgles with eating and drinking. I am using my son's baby spoon for foods, and putting it down between spoonfuls, am getting small sips of water constantly. How can I improve my food/beverage to air ratio? I am also very tired, not much energy. Is that normal?
vikingbeast 987 Posted October 12, 2021 So I was given the green light to start adding "soft solid" foods, and specifically on the list were whole cooked Beans (pinto, kidney, etc.) What. A. Nightmare. I've been eating puréed cooked pinto beans since I was moved to purées with no problems. The whole beans? I chewed them to paste and they STILL caused the absolute worst gastrointestinal pain I have ever had for going on 24 hours now. It is passing but let me tell you, I can feel EXACTLY where they are in my digestive tract and I am not touching a whole bean again for a few months. There's plenty of other things to eat. Tony B - NJ 643 Posted October 12, 2021 I experienced the same thing with lima Beans. I tried them again a couple weeks later and much better, My biggest struggle is chicken. Unless it is shreaded, it gets stuck in my throat and hurts bad.
lizonaplane 1,613 Posted October 12, 2021 I couldn't do chicken except ground chicken (like ground beef but chicken - ground turkey is fine too). I've had no issues with Beans, and they've been a staple for me. Haven't tried lima beans, but kidney, black, and chickpeas have all been fine. eggs have been okay and tuna fish or broiled salmon has been fine. The only thing that didn't work was chicken, but it wasn't really in a sauce. Maybe I'll have to try again
FLPhoenix 20 Posted October 12, 2021 Thank you! How are you feeling now almost 2 weeks out? I was a WRECK for the first 4-5 days but then I felt like a whole new woman ready to fight grizzly bears lol Pretty much the same for me days 1-3 were terrible and that gas pain was excruciating. Completely stuck under my chest. Once that subsided the actual incision pain was not too bad. I am feeling great now too, I am still in complete shock of how much I have lost in so little time. After years of trying to get back down. Crazy and surreal!!! I got clearance yesterday to start the Mushy Phase, never have I been so excited for eggs and tuna salad [emoji16]Sent from my SM-G998U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
Bcm0687 2 Posted October 14, 2021 So I’m two weeks and one day post op and I’m down 32lbs! Struggled with Protein intake until the past two days when my mom (13yrs post op) introduced me to Isopure protein. It’s not chalky or flavored like vanilla or chocolate (absolutely burned out on those flavors) it’s clear and berry or fruit flavored depending what you get. There are several. I added it to propel to get electrolytes in at the same time! Delicious! Also today I added it to unsweet tea and it’s AMAZING! Taste great! Just something that helped me and thought I’d share in case someone was struggling like I was with the common protein flavors.
Leslie F 21 Posted October 16, 2021 No preop diet. Just Clear Liquids and a Protein Drink the night before and the morning of surgery. VSG 9/18 @ Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
echubbythighs 4 Posted October 20, 2021 Checking back in w/ September Gastric sleeve buddies. I’m now 5 weeks post-op and down 25 pounds. I’ve phased myself back to a regular diet and have no issues with N/V. I get the Protein Shakes in when I can and found the Multivitamins and Calcium difficult to chew so throw them in w/ a Protein Shake and blend the hell out of it. Current weight 162. I can only tolerate small portions and find I feel miserable if I don’t stop when my body says enough. I realize more now than ever that eating the large portions was mostly mental because my mind still tells me to finish what’s on my plate. I remain regret free in my decision to have the surgery. Best of all my back pain has diminished significantly and I have more energy. I wish you all health and happiness as you continue on your weight loss journey. 2 lizonaplane and Sleeve_Me_Alone reacted to this
