What are your favorite food go-to's ?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone 👋

I am currently on the soft food stage & feel like it would be great to hear what everyone else's favorite go-to's are. It would be so helpful to get new ideas & see what has worked for others.

Share foods for whatever stage you are currently at, or various stages. Share any meal of the day or snack, or a number of your faves!

Looking forward to hear what everyone is eating!😊🍳🥘🍲

Oh good idea, I think I might be going out for Japanese food next week, maybe I'll get sashimi! Thanks, Tomo!😁

This is a great thread for ideas...but be careful, not all items will appeal to everyone! I'm looking at you Parmesan Crisps!

Regular food Stage: I've pretty much continued eating like I did several months BEFORE surgery (low carb/no sugar) only less.

Breakfast: scrambled egg & 1 turkey sausage patty OR a one egg omelet w/cheese and/or veggies OR a turkey sausage, egg and cheese on a whole wheat Thomas' English Muffin (can only eat like half to 3 quarters of it)

Lunch: tuna (with just light mayo, salt and pepper) along with 6 whole wheat crackers and a few cubes of cheese OR a few pieces of lunchmeat and cheese OR left over Protein from the night before OR natural PB with some sugar free jelly on whole wheat bread.

Dinner: When it comes to meat/protein it's almost always chicken (baked/cooked various ways)/shrimp/salmon/fish, etc. I TRY to also get in veggies but am usually barely able to fit them in once I eat my protein but veggies will be anything from broccoli, green Beans & mushrooms, spinach, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, etc.

Snacks: I don't usually snack at all during day. But if I still feel hungry after my meals I will take that opportunity to eat some sort of fruit or yogurt or cottage cheese. I usually make it a point of getting in at least two servings of fruit a day anyway.

My meals don't typically include starches (hell, if I barely have room for veggies then I almost never have room for a starch) but once in a while they do and it will be something like brown rice, protein Pasta, veggie pasta, potatoes, or the whole wheat/grain bread, whole wheat/grain English muffins, whole wheat/grain crackers. Stuff along those lines.

That’s an excellent thread but obviously all those foods are not for every stage. Just a heads up just in case.

My go to on puree was chicken salad. Soft stage was buffalo chicken meatballs.

The meatballs sound good for regular food stage. We’re they easy to make?

Oh...the buffalo chicken meatballs sound good. Did you buy them pre-made or make them? Thanks that's something to try!

I think many of these will be my go-to's later on. Can't wait to add a little whole wheat or low carb bread or Cracker options when my new stomach is ready to handle it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
