So THIS is restriction...

Recommended Posts

Now I finally see what all the fuss is about. I think I'm liking the band now - FINALLY! I got my 2nd fill last week, and now have 5cc's in my 10cc AP Small Band.

All I can say is..... YOWZA!!!! I had my first PB, my first true "stuck" experience - and I loved it. Crazy, but true. Don't get me wrong, the pain was almost unbearable, but for the first time since surgery I felt like something was finally done. I was starting to think my surgeon didn't actually put the band in, it was all just a dream or something.

I still haven't weighed myself - I hate my scale and haven't stepped on in weeks. I get sooo depressed when I don't see a change, and my scale and I are not on speaking terms right now. I think I'll get up the nerve to step on in a few days. We'll see.

For those who are experiencing frustration (believe me, I did!!!) - hang in there. There is no mistaking true restriction. You'll know it when it happens. There is a light at the end of the tunnel - dont give up hope. I'm blissfully PB'ing and sliming and all those horrible things we shouldn't do. I'm learning that bread is the enemy and drinking anything while eating is a huge mistake. I think I will end up loving this band, even though we got off to a very rocky start :(

Re-newed hope is a wonderful thing!

I too had my second fill last week. And I too finally have restriction. And yes, the pain is terrible when it gets stuck so I am truly learning to slow down and chew, chew, chew. Even stuff I thought would go right through gets stuck. I have to be so careful. BUT THANK GOD I FINALLY HAVE RESTRICTION!!!

Got my second fill last Friday, and what a difference!! I can feel yogurt and shakes going down now. I was able to eat broccoli, chicken, chili, and pickles before, but I doubt I'll be able to next week, when I go back to solids. I foresee a lot of liquids in my diet for the next few months.

I felt the same way right after my second fill. Totally wierd though, my restriction is gone! When I drank, I would have air bubbles coming back up. I had to eat super slow. Now, I'm hungry, can guzzle again. I even ate fried calamari. Strange!! I miss that restriction feeling!

You might have lost enough weight from your second fill to where the restriction is gone. I learned on Friday that restriction is a combination of the band and your body's pressure from surrounding tissue that keeps the opening small. I found out because when I saw my band on the floro (just before 2nd fill) both me and my doctor saw the band was wide-open, compared to my first fill, and he said that was completely normal, since I've lost considerable weight since the 1st fill.

Yankee,

what is sliming?????

Well - without being overly graphic.. sliming is when something gets stuck on the way to your stomach, and your body produces lots and lots of saliva and mucas to try and get it down. The icky part is - it doesn't work. The saliva and mucas end up puddling in your mouth and you have to constantly spit it out. It's really gross and I recommend trying to avoid if at all possible.

ICK!

I was in NYC over the weekend and ate a small corner of a street vendor soft pretzel. It got stuck and I was in misery!! I had no where to hide and was ducking behind cars trying to spit it up. It was so "un-lady like!". I hope to NEVER feel that pain again!

Yep...that's sliming. I had a little bout of that last night. I'm still getting used to the second fill. ;) I'm still on my mushies stage and went with something that worked well after the first fill: grits. So, I'm happily eating my grits, when I had that "oh crap, this is gonna hurt" feeling. For the next 15 minutes or so I got to feel why grits are called grits. I felt each and every individual grit try and make it's way down my stomach...not fun. A bellyfull of gurgling grits is not an optimum way to enjoy Monday Night Football. I felt worse than the Atlanta Falcons were playing.

Oh I hope my second fill will be the answer for me too. I had my first on Friday, Dec 7 and I feel absolutely NOTHING different. I had 3 CC's and I believe my band is 10 cc. I called my surgeon yesterday and I can come back next Tuesday the 18th for more (horray). I know what you mean about wanting to feel that restriction - I can't wait!!

Yank. Clap! Clap! I so have been testing my band and only have the first fill. My second is Monday. I know exactly what you are talking about, I want the band to tell me it is there! I have been trying to watch what I eat excersise etc... but I want to know that the put this in and paid for it for a reason.

I recently had my first fill too, and now I feel more hungery than I did before the fill. However, I have lost 6 pounds since the fill. Not too bad! On a couple of occassions I can feel some restriction. My surgeon told me I should probably have another one in two weeks, because he likes to fill them slowly. So I am scheduled to have my second one on Dec. 18th.

I can totally relate to all those who have had just 1 fill and eagerly awaiting the second. I had my mind set on that first fill - thinking that would make all the difference - I was sooo wrong and soooo disappointed. My doctor put only 3cc's the first go round - didn't feel any different. Ok, well - maybe a tiny bit, but, certainly not $15k worth.

Second fill was 2 additional CC's - 5 total. That was a HUGE difference. Who would think 2 little CC's could change everything. I'm thrilled with it now. Just hang in there my friends - you'll soon have that "Oh my God - I'm going to explode!" feeling. You'll love it too!

haha

Soup and Protein shakes will become your best friend! :)

I am glad to hear I am not the only one with this issue. I was seriously doubting what I have done because I am still so hungry with one fill. (2 cc's) Hopefully on my next fill I will feel the same. One thing that is different is my Doctor won't fill me again for 4 to 6 weeks! So I guess I'll just have to wait until January.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
