After 2 years I finally got actual dumping syndrome

Recommended Posts

I’ve determined that I absolutely cannot eat Ramen. (Ate it once before, made me feel sick) I have been laying here for over an hour with my mouth periodically watering because I feel like I’m gonna throw up. If I didn’t have a phobia over vomit I am sure that I definitely would have. I feel like I’m dying!! I have no problem eating any kind of Pasta or other kinds of noodles but there’s just something about Ramen I can’t digest. Anyway this is definitely the closest I’ve come to puking since my surgery. What do you do for dumping?? I tried papaya enzymes, laying down, tums…. Nothing helps. Just wait it out? I feel like I never want to eat again!

that doesn't sound like true dumping since that occurs after eating too much sugar (or for some people, fat). It usually involves heart palpatations, chills, sweating... Regardless, that ramen is clearly NOT agreeing with you. You may just have to wait it out. You've tried everything I would have tried (papaya enzymes and antacids). I know you hate vomiting, but it's too bad you can't, since that usually relieves it. Just so you know, vomiting post-surgery is actually a lot less unpleasant than it is pre-surgery. I no longer dread it. I hope this resolves for you soon - I'm sure you're miserable!

I agree with Catwoman, that it doesn't sound like dumping. But it definitely sounds as if ramen noodles don't agree with you. I have not found anything that relieves what you are describing other than actually vomiting it out. Also, as Catwoman said, vomiting now doesn't involve the stomach acid and unpleasant taste of the past. It's not fun, but it does relieve what you are feeling.

It may be msg. I find taking 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar in a little Water works well to start to settle things down. If it is an
Msg reaction it won’t be an immediate cure but it will help.

This does not sound like dumping syndrome, but I can sympathise. I too find that the blend of solid food with liquid (noodles and Soup for example) makes me feel like throwing up, and you get that froth in your mouth. Actually unlike some others here I find that throwing up is VERY hard since the bypass - I think because there’s less stomach muscle to power it. The only time I actually threw up was in the last few months when I was having cancer treatment and my stomach was blasted with radiation…

I find a hot wheat bag on the stomach helps to settle it, and strong peppermint sweets sometimes.

Ramen noodles are made with an extremely alkaline solution known as kansui, and if they're the kind that come in the cheap cellophane package, they're also partially fried to help them dry out. You could be reacting to the alkalinity, to the high fat content (a package of Maruchan chicken ramen has 14g of fat even though it only weighs about 65g before cooking), or to the extremely high sodium content. Or some of all three!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
