I used to get up and walk around the house during commercial breaks.

I seem to be the opposite. I watched cooking shows during my recovery period. For some reason, it helped me. That, and the fact that 95% of the food advertised in commercials does not tempt me at all.

For anyone wondering about recovery, some thoughts from me while they are fresh in my head…

The first 48 hours were pretty rough. I wasn’t in any real pain from the incisions (laparoscopic VSG, outpatient) but I had horrible pains and pressure from the CO2. I also had very painful gas bubbles in my stomach whenever I drank. It felt like a bad hunger pang. It was also very uncomfortable to be reclined so sleeping was hard.

My surgery was on Thursday, it’s now Monday and I feel much more like myself. I’m going to try to work at my desk (at home) tomorrow and feel like I should be able to get a full day in.

I noticed that about a month ago when I was staying in a hotel (I'm pre-op). I only have Netflix at home, so no commercials. I hate commercials for food! I'd rather watch cooking shows.

I record, stream or download almost everything I watch. I can’t stand any ads at all. They’re everywhere. Social media, game apps, the roadside, cinema, etc. So frustrating & annoying. 99.9% of them are about things I’m not interested in so they’re pointless. But food ads - blahh! They turn my stomach.

I love cooking shows & continued to watch them all through my recovery too. Didn’t make me feel hungry though.

I watch cooking shows now and I’m like oh my gosh I could never eat that 😂

👍 I like to look at it, but the thought of actually eating it holds no appeal.

It is so weird.

Hello.. I’m 2 weeks post-op.. I’m struggling myself with the commercials.. every time I turn the TV on there’s delicious food..I do my best.. but today I actually had a slip and had a couple fries from Arby’s.. my stomach took it well but I felt bad after I ate them.. it’s taking everything in me not to try to resort to the old me

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
