How did you get back on track?

Recommended Posts

I was banded in Sept. of 2006. I did very well (lost 50 lbs very quickly) and then got terribly off track. I'm interested in hearing others' stories about what happened, how they dealt with it, and where they are now.

I just had my first fill in 10 months, still feel like I can eat too much, but I'm better than I was.:)

cnsdubie

congrats on the first step - wanting to get back on track.

i took some time off (late July thru November) and just did it. that's the best way to start - just do it.

follow the bandster rules, dont stuff yourself at your meals, dont drink with meals, etc.

you can do this!

Well, I learned a lot from this. If a person is a stress/binge eater before banding, odds are they will replace the food with another binge. Shopping. Sex. Internet. Part of my "back on track plan" is seeing a counselor that specializes in eating disorders.

Happening to me now...just as I'm about ready to cross the finish line.

I just realized how much I spent

how nothing else worked

that if I fail at this NOTHING will work

that I CAN do this

that kind of pep talk to myself

grace, that is the most perfect way to put it. I really think that sums it up for a lot of us. I'm going to write that down.

First thing I do is make sure I have enough restriction. In my case I am going back in after Christmas for a fill. I am going to recommit myself and eat healthy and limit alcohol. Keep your eye on the prize and look at some "fat" pictures. You can do it!

I got way off track for a while due to being overfilled for way too long (my fault), causing myself some problems and having to have a complete unfill for almost six weeks. During those six weeks, I really enjoyed eating...a lot.

I found I couldn't wait to get my fill last week because I was actually sick of eating crap and shoving food down my mouth. I had let myself get away from these boards, which is my primary source for inspiration/motivation. So, I remembered why I did this to begin with, how good it felt when the weight was coming off and came back to LBT. I lost 4 pounds last week and am totally motivated to get the rest off.

I made a huge pot of Taco Soup last Sunday. Froze about 6 big bowls of it and I've been eating it every day. I've put on 3 pounds and I know it is the sodium in the soup, plus eating a whole lot of it. Tonight I went through the refrig and freezer like a mad woman, tossing everything (all the frozen soup that was left), crackers, some old pudding cups left over from post-surgery.....everything. Then I hauled it all out to the trash. I feel much better. WHEW!

If I go on a binge which usually involves way too much sugar, I go back to the liquid Protein drinks. It's hard the first day, but after that, I am not craving sugar anymore and I start losing very quickly.

It's always helped me get my weight loss going again. I can do this for a week, and then go back to Protein first, and a little bit of veggies and fruit.< /p>

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one dealing with getting off track. I was banded in May '07 and have lost 60 pounds so far. It seems like it came off sooooo easy at first. I had my gallbladder removed the end of October, went on a cruise 2 weeks later, and haven't been able to stop eating since. I know I need a fill but keep telling myself I'll wait until the holidays are over... don't know if that's a good idea because it gives me more time to over eat. We're going on another trip in January so now I'm telling myself to wait for my fill after that... I didn't eat sweets for months, and now that I started, I can't stop. I know what I need to do, but can't seem to get in the right frame of mind. HELP !!!!

Mysterio, I would just think about how good you feel now. Make sure you get rid of all your bigger sized clothes too. Recommit today. Go get a fill. It will be worth it.

I am glad I am getting a fill tomorrow! I don't want to gain over the holidays. I am determined to get to my goal and I am tired of

waiting to feel like I have the band again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
