Dizzy when I stand up

Recommended Posts

When I stand up, I feel a bit dizzy. Not like pass out dizzy, just like it gets a bit dark. It sounds terrible when I say that. Anyone else having that experience?

I was getting dizzy when I stood up and I finally worked it down to not getting enough calories. I upped my calories about 100-200 a day and the dizziness has been significantly reduced. Still happens every once in a while, but I find that it happens when I haven’t eaten in a while.

Low blood pressure. Specifically orthostatic low blood pressure. Your BP is low so when you stand your blood goes to your feet (gravity) & it takes a bit longer to get back up to your head hence feeling dizzy & your vision narrowing or disappearing briefly. I experience it several times a day. Get up slowly. Wait a short time when you stand before you start to move. Wriggle your feet or walk on the spot to get the blood moving. I usually reach for the wall, some furniture even a person just to ground me for the time my vision disappears. I sometimes feel nauseous at the same time. Low caloric intake/low or drops in your sugar levels can make it worse.

For most this condition improves or disappears after a few months. I still have it because I always had a tendency towards low BP - it just happens every day now versus a couple of times a month before surgery. But that’s me.

Check with your medical team though to make sure.

it's common after surgery - I had it at first but I haven't felt it in a long time (I'm over six years out). It's due to low blood pressure. Just get up slowly. Here's info about it (and most of us have the acute version - it'll usually resolve itself over time):

I experienced that for the first few months up until I started getting in at least 700 calories per day. I noticed if I ate less than that, I would start to feel dizzy again. I’m sure that would be different for each person but that was the magic number for me.

I have experienced this too and my blood pressure at the dr was pretty low. He said it was still within the acceptable range right then but to keep an eye on it. Since I am able to eat more now (at five months out) this has gone away completely for me.for what it’s worth the dr seemed to attribute it more to likely dehydration than low calories though. He said to make sure I am getting enough to drink so I guess that can also be a cause.

Don't think its dizziness I think your getting lightheaded. I got that alot and only passed out 2 times. Saw a doctor and he said it would pass wich it did and now only occurs once in a blue moon. Noticed it happened alot when I sat in my recliner Nd was pulling myself up with the arms of the chair. Think its the sudden bp change.

UPDATE: My doctor said that my BP is perfect, and most likely he said this feeling was my body responding to a lower blood volume due to weight loss. He also said to make sure that I reach my Water goals (which I do).

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
