not taking my vitamins! Why do I hate taking care of myself????

Recommended Posts

HELP! :cry

I don't know why...I just can't seem to get myself in a routine doing the things I need to do. I don't know why.

I anyone else like this?

It's not just my Vitamins, its my meds too! It's like I don't want to or are unable to get myself on a good schedule..or HATE doing good/healthy things for myself? What's with that????

Its almost like I feel that I don't deserve to do good things for myself...hard to explain. :)

I still have problems with developing a schedual to take my meds. its easiest in the mornings for me. That I can handle fine. I Just take my meds with my coffee each morning. But evening doses or If I'm on anything that is more then once a day I fail to do terribly.

I look forward to getting my band and being able to reduce my meds since I have to take 15 pills each morning and 5 each evening.

I found that buying a couple of pill keepers I keep one at the computer where i sit down every morning. and one on my bedside table so its in sight and keeps me better on track that way.

But my biggest problem is my 2 insulin shots since it has to be kept in the fridge its out of sight out of mind.

years ago when my oldest son started taking meds for his adhd I had a electronic pill reminder.

It was a small thing that could be set in hour increments that helped me get in the grove on giving him his meds.

That thing was IMENSELY Helpfull but somehow it got lost and I have never found another one.

Hrmm now i think its time to do a google search to find another one.

I use to be bad about taking daily meds..

I have a new routine. It's something like 21 days to make a habit, so stick to it 21 days and you're golden. Now it's part of my nightly routine.

I keep my Vitamins, tums, prilosec, and other daily meds in my nightstand. A bottle of Water on my nightstand. Every single night when I lay down in bed, I take all my meds. And that way I don't forget and it's same time every day.

Good luck :(

I do the same thing. I have two pill caddies, one for morning Vitamins and one for evening vitamins. I like having them all meted out weekly so that I don't have to open half a dozen bottles every time I need to take them. My chewables are so big that I can't fit them into one caddy, even the XXL size! I keep both caddies next to my bathroom sink and I take my vitamins when I get up in the morning and before I go to bed at night. I still can't seem to remember to take my Iron pill in the middle of the day but it isn't really a requirement.

It has been a real trial to get my husband in the habit of taking his vitamins -- a Multivitamin and glucosamine. I had to remind him every day! But I think he's finally getting into the habit -- he's only missed a day or two in the last two weeks. If he can get into the habit, anyone can! :)

Make it as easy on yourself as possible. Maybe set a reminder on your cellphone or a calendar? Think about something you do every morning (and evening, if necessary) that you can tie your vitamins to. I don't think it's a matter of not wanting to take care of yourself, just a matter of getting into the habit.

Good luck!

I used to take Nexium and Toprol for my BP. I just got in a regiment that when I woke up to brush my teeth I took my meds. Thankfully I lost enough weight that I no longer take anything now. I have never taken Vitamins. I get enough from what I eat.

I do what Laura does and set them all out on my nightstand and keep a bottle of Water there. I would keep forgetting to take my meds and then remember when I'd lay down for the night. Well, lazy me wouldn't get out of bed to take them so I thought, hell I'll just put them beside the bed with a bottle of water. It does help that all my meds and Vitamins I can take once a day so I don't have to take anything mid day or in the morn! If I had to I'd probably be really bad!!

Thank you all for your help.

It's almost as though I am being "stubborn" about it..I just don't know why.

My mom was the same way..she was terrible about taking her medicine.

Thanks Telecia...I will look into that.

:cry

I am a terrible "procratinator".....I think that has a lot to do with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
