Belle4243 0 Posted August 3, 2021 Hi all. I believe for my insurance BlueCross blue shield of Illinois (I have blue choice ppo) they need a letter of recommendation for weight loss surgery by my main doctor. My main doctor is just my obgyn/gynecologist that I see every year. Does she count as a primary doctor, would they accept it from her or I need to find a family doctor general practitioner? vikingbeast 987 Posted August 3, 2021 That's a really good question—ask your surgery centre, because they'll know for sure, and if you DO need a PCP I'm sure they can rustle one up for you. For CIGNA they just need two recommendations, one from the surgeon and one from another licensed medical doctor or PA, but not sure about BCBS.
catwoman7 11,220 Posted August 4, 2021 (edited) yes - ob/gyns are usually considered primary care providers (ob/gyns, internal medicine, and family practice physicians are all considered primary care) Edited August 4, 2021 by catwoman7
lunadreams 22 Posted August 4, 2021 They should. My surgery program had a template for them to follow.
