People Magazine

Hi All,

I was just reading the new issue of People (with Jennifer Love Hewitt on the cover) and there is an article on a 17 year old girl who was banded in June. Just an FYI, an interesting read. She's lost about 50 pounds so far.

-My surgery is at 1 pm today!! I have to be at the hospital in 3 hrs!! :whoo:

Take Care!

Michelle

I read the same magazine this morning and saw the article about the teenager. She looks great! I agree with Jennifer Hewitt...the media is a joke. Yeah...she's really fat at size 2!!! Give me a damn break. They probably think that I'm a hippo.

Good luck with your surgery.

Good luck with your surgery today and let us know how you are as soon as you feel up to it.

I agree. Granted, she may not be as toned as some of the other celebrities, but that certainly does NOT make her fat.

Hi All,

I didn't think I'd have the motivation to post tonight, but my excellent pain meds have really kicked in, and I couldn't wait to tell you all about my experience!

I arrived at the hospital at 11am today and waited about 30 minutes before I was finally called in. I met with the nurse and did the usual vital signs, etc. I usually have a very good tolerance of pain, but I think my nerves were acting up and everything hurt more then normal. I had my heparin shot into my stomache to prevent blood clotting and it stung like hell. I also have really bad veins and it took 4 attempts and 45 minutes before they finally got my IV going. At that point I was late for surgery and incredibly frustrated and scared. One of my doctors prior patients also helps out at the hospital, and met with to go over my pre-op instructions. I have been over them soo many times and read so much about it here, that it was all a big repeat for me.

So anyways, the anesthesiologist finally came in and went over the last details and he gave me a Valium like relaxant. That was amazing, I felt so happy, the nerves disappeared and all I could do was smile! They wheeled me into the room and gave me the gas and a shot, and told me to think of myself sitting on the beach in an exotic location. I remember having some dreams, but I can't remember what of, and next thing I know they are waking me up and I'm extremely confused and my throat hurts and I feel like I've just been punched in the stomache, or have done 5,000 sit-ups. I didn't fully register what was going on for about 10 minutes and then all I could ask for was more and more pain meds. I was in a lot of pain! After I got that under control I got to see my family, and rested for a little while before they told me I was fit to leave! I was in a lot of pain for a while, but got home and walked around and felt much better. I've had a little apple juice, but I really don't feel like drinking anything. THe doc said tomorrow I can go back on full liquids and I have to get in at least 64 ounces a day, along with 500mg of Calcium 3 times per day, a chewable Multi-Vitamin and 40 grams of Protein. That will be a challenge, but I'm sure I can handle it. I've taken my liquid pain meds and now I am feeling soo much better. Anyways, this is becoming too long and I am dozing off as I type this. Take care everyone! Will post more later!

Michelle!!! You are going to have to change your screen name to Wonder Woman!!! My gosh girl, you amaze me!

Glad surgery went well. Tomorrow, walk and sip, walk and sip, and walk and sip some more!

I did not get in the amount they hoped I would following surgery, but by about the 3rd day I was drinking enough to satisfy anyone! I walked almost non stop! But I was in the hospital for almost 3 days! I had it done on the morning of day 1, and spent all that day, all the next, and went home the morning of day 3! But I had a 5 hour flight, and about 5 hours of driving as well---so it was best I waited!

Go get some rest. If you are going to try to sleep in bed, try putting a dining chair next to the bed---it helps to have something to use for leverage getting in and out of the bed!

Let us know how you feel tomorrow!

You are a bandster---wooohooo!!!

Kat

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
