dennydenco 11 Posted July 23, 2021 (edited) I just had the gastric sleeve surgery three months ago. I tend to find myself being really concerned about stretching my stomach or doing something that will cause a downfall. For those preparing to have revision surgery, is there any advice you can give regarding what led to having to have revision surgery? What wisdom would you pass on to those of us who just had our initial surgery? Thank you. Very very grateful. starladustangel 270 Posted July 23, 2021 Gerd. No issues with my sleeve stretching and I was able to maintain my weight loss. It was just severe uncontrollable GERD. 3 Tomo, GreenTealael and dennydenco reacted to this

Not everyone or even the majority of people will need a revision so try not to worry about it right now. Good Luck! 1 dennydenco reacted to this
Sandra Nuelken 419 Posted July 23, 2021 Year two with sleeve and no problems, prior to this I had the band and it was a constant nightmare, too tight, too loose, then it caused some real problems and had it removed. The doctor said he's had to take a lot of them out.

Weight loss was good, no stretching of the sleeve either in 6-7 years. Edited July 24, 2021 by Sukida
Sandra Nuelken 419 Posted July 24, 2021 I had a band and it failed, slipped, just failed. I had it removed and 6 months later had the sleeve. I've been probably overly diligent about what I eat. I stayed at the stage 3 diet, and I hate calling it a diet as it is a new way of looking at food. It is nutrition it is not a friend, a reward, or a treat. It almost killed me, that is not your friend. I eat 65-70 g. Protein. Protein is always first. I tend to have something every 3 hours, grapes, a peach, Breakfast a Protein Drink, lunch 4oz of cottage cheese, now on a peach, dinner 4 oz of protein. chicken, salmon, tuna are my goto. I also eat other things but not often. Treats are Outshine bars, almonds. If I do drink it is once a week and only once. If there is cake or cookie around I have a bite and savor it. I also log all of my food and keep it below 1200 calories. The days of high-calorie food are gone, I can taste but not eat. I did get a chance to eat homemade ice cream with caramel sauce on it and homemade whipped cream. After 3 spoonsful I was full. You just have to watch what you eat. Carbs bloat my stomach and make me uncomfortable as did the ice cream. Good luck on your journey. 1 ndrjackson reacted to this
deltagirl93 79 Posted July 25, 2021 Like the others, it was a lap-band failure for me. Ironically, I had it for twelve years before having it removed. I had horrible acid reflux and never got the adjustments just right. After a while, I stopped going for fills/adjustments and regained the weight. Having said that, I have been successful with my revision. However, I am all in with exercise and eating better. No matter which surgery you have, the honeymoon period will wear off and when it does, you better be in position with good habits formed or you will see the weight creep back. I’ve maintained over 110+ lb weight loss for over three years, however, it’s no longer the surgery at work, but me as I can now eat about 90% of what I use to be able to eat. So maintenance has definitely been the “natural” way.
Sandra Nuelken 419 Posted July 25, 2021 Same here with two years out. I hate to call it a diet, but rather a new way of eating and approaching food. A new me. I walk 30 minutes each morning and now can do those things I've always wanted to do. It is a fair trade for what I now eat. I don't feel deprived, just better. At 75 I walked the cone of a volcano in NM and daily walked from the Resort to downtown New Orleans, in the heat, and put in several miles a day. This could have never happened before surgery! I am blessed. 1 gabbykittyvsg reacted to this
lbugher 41 Posted July 27, 2021 Another failed lap band here! I am getting revision to RNY tomorrow morning. I am so excited to get this awful thing out of my body. It did NOTHING to curb my hunger or appetite. All it did was make eating healthy food hard, and make eating slider food rewarding. Couldn't get a chicken breast and a cup of broccoli down because it would get stuck in the band but I could eat a greasy cheeseburger and a milkshake with zero issues. I wish the lap band procedure would be banned all together. It's useless at best, and potentially fatal if it's left alone to cause issues. 1 I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ reacted to this

I'm sorry. I had a brain fart when I wrote this. 5 years, not 6 or 7. I think I was thinking of my lap band which I had before the sleeve. I also wanted to add that the only wisdom I can give so you won't go down the same path as me is to be vigilant in taking your PPI, and if one doesn't work, switch right away. Famotidine stopped working for me, but yet I continued forever to take it and I think a lot of damage came from that. Burning throat, not being able to sleep or food will rush up. Even after waiting 3 hrs after dinner, I would get it. After that, they switched me to from Famotidine (H2) to Omeprazole which helped.
relaxrelaterelease 38 Posted July 27, 2021 I was revised from the sleeve to bypass last Thursday due to severe GERD and a hiatal hernia. Within about a month or two of being sleeved, I began developing reflux. It took almost 2 years to consult with a specialist who confirmed that I had developed GERD (and over time the hiatal hernia) due to the sleeve surgery. Please be your best advocate and speak up if you feel something isn't right. I took very potent PPI's for almost 3 years and that led to damage to my esophagus. I feel so much better already, and I am losing weight as well! 2 I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ and moonbean85 reacted to this
Nifer72 49 Posted February 24, 2022 I had gastric bypass 21 years ago. I wouldn't say it was a failure that's leading me to the revision as I lost 95 lb and I've kept it off for 21 years. With that being said, I do have more weight to lose about another 75 lb and I've developed issues with GERD and severe motility issues so my surgeon thinks that a revision will help resolve these as well.
