Surgeon Disappointed 😞

Hi everyone. Yesterday marked my 4 week post op since my surgery date on June 17th. I had the sleeve. I have lost a total of 21 lbs since then. I felt good until I left my 4 week appt. yesterday & my surgeon said I didn't lose enough and he wanted to see me lose more. I've been down since then. I thought I was doing well. Does anybody know the average weight loss for 4 weeks?

My Dr. just told me he expects 10 pounds a month. But congrats! You're doing great!

Wow!... I guess my surgeon is just weird. For my next appointment in two weeks...he said to lose at least 15 more lbs. Smh... I'm just going to focus on eating right and walking and Protein like I've been doing! Thank you!

He's doing too much. Keep doing what you're doing!

I guess my surgeon is just in another world or something. He said in the next two weeks he needs to see 15 lbs down. I'm just going to do what I've been doing & focus on what I am losing without the pressure.

That is ridiculous and unrealistic! The average expected weight loss is 2-4 lbs a week.

Exactly!! That's what I said! Idk why he's putting these unrealistic #s on me!

That's about what I lost the first month.

My surgeon told me that people either lose incredibly quickly and their weight loss slows after about 6 months or stops, or they're slow and steady and they will lose up to 18 months or 2 years after surgery. People are one way or the other and you can't really control it by eating or exercise that's just how it goes.

I only lost 15 my first month. I am 6 months out and have lost 85 total although 10 of it is after a revision last week as an emergency. I had a perforated ulcer which is rare. Do you still work with a nutritionist? If not I highly recommend it. Mine has been awesome! Especially when I had stalls and felt really down like you. They kept telling me that my body has had significant trauma from surgery and is trying to figure out what the heck just happened. I agree with a comment above about it being a marathon. I thought I was losing slow but to see my total weight loss after 6 months I feel better. Maybe put your scale away and weigh in once a month. Also track your NSV’s. I had 6 weeks of no weight loss but I went down a whole pant size!

Your surgeon is a douchenozzle.

I lost 13.4 pounds the first month after surgery. At 12 months I'm down 110 from surgery date, and down a total of 161.6 from entering the program. My surgeon is thrilled.

So the first month loss can be a false indicator (in either direction).

I am 6 1/2 months out and have lost 65 lbs. I am losing slow but every lb counts. Still eating right and hitting the gym. The rest will come off eventually.

I am surprised at your surgeons reaction! At my 4 week checkup I was down 17 pounds since surgery and my doctor was thrilled! Maybe it's because I am much older than you are and probably have a much slower metabolism?

Here’s a good rule of thumb and you’re right on or maybe even at high end of expected weight loss.

I was upset for you so I told the nurse practitioner at my clinic about your surgeon, lol. She just said that doesn’t make sense but I thought it was funny that I thought of it during my appt.

Oh wow. Thanks for thinking of me. Crazy thing is... I got a letter in the mail yesterday stating that he was leaving the practice. 🤔The chart above seems more realistic then the #s he was throwing at me. Thanks guys!!

Yea I thought that chart seemed about right for what I’ve lost. It’s probably past due for that doctor to part ways after the way he treated you. Maybe he is just burnt out or something?? Who knows.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.
