So I'm on the pre-op diet and I am consuming almost 160 grams of Protein a day and I am still SO HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. I drink a ton of Water, but it seems like no matter what I eat or drink, my stomach is still rumbling with hunger. Any suggestions on ways to make this more tolerable? Should I be consuming more protein (my pre-op diet instructions only recommended 70?)? Someone please tell me after the surgery that I won't feel this hungry all the time.

What day of your pre-op diet are you on? The first two days I was super hungry, but since then it has been less difficult. I’m on day four now and have three Protein Shakes a day (90g).

when I do get hungry, I’m allowed Bone Broth, which really helps.

I agree with the above poster - most people claim it gets easier around day 3 or 4, when your body goes into ketosis (happened to me as well)

I was miserable the entire pre-op diet. Was worse than my recovery from surgery, in my opinion. I truly hate the way ketosis makes me feel...my brain doesn't work. I feel cloudy and impaired...to the degree I feel unsafe to drive. I feel like I'm trying to think through a wad of cotton, it's awful.

I do think the hunger urgency lessens around day 3....but for me, it was still incredibly awful. (I hope your experience is better!)

All of this said....this is a temporary thing! The hoops have been jumped through, and you are almost there:) And that's something to Celebrate.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery:)

The pre-op diet sucked. Mine was a 10-day liquid diet and I broke down on day 4 or so and ate a yogurt. It was just really difficult for me. Hang in there, this too shall pass.

I had a rough time, especially the first 3 or 4 days. I was hungry and went through caffeine withdrawal and had a bad headache. I was on a 2 week clear liquid diet with Protein Shakes. After those first few days it got much easier, but was certainly no picnic. I just kept reminding myself why I was doing this and that helped me get through it.

Thank you for the encouragement! It was a little easier today but it definitely still sucked. I’m just trying to keep my mind in the right place and remind myself why I’m doing this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
