is veg. Soup and gumbo a good food to eat with the band? I know we shouldn't have anything to drink before eating or after eating , but what about soup or jumbo that is mixed with liquid form and solid too. And is it filling or do it go straight down? Really need to know, wanted to have some veg. soup for lunch tomorrow! pleaserespond quickly!

You'll find differing views, some people are real purists when it comes to not eating and drinking together to the point where they wont eat Cereal with milk or have Soup.< /p>

I dont care personally, vege soup is hearty, filling and very healthy (especially if you make it yourself) and I eat a lot of soup.

Due to the liquid/solid combo of soup I do have to eat it carefully sometimes, it can block me up a bit. And I cant eat crackers or bread with it, I just have the soup. I may get hungrier a bit sooner coz its very liquidy, what I might do is have soup for lunch and then half an hour later (when in my imagination the liquid has drained through and mushy stuff remains in my pouch) I might top up with a bit of low fat cheese on a few crackers or a snack pack of fruit etc etc.

Gumbo we just dont really eat here.

I love gumbo, but I am really tight right now and just can't do the rice! Have you tried other spicy foods? If not you might want to keep some antacides handy cause you might not be able to tolerate spicy. Some banders can and some can't. I don't really have a problem with them.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
